lane assist on my tom tom gps will switch to show lanes when you are on interstate highways going by exits. So if for example you are in a 3 lane road and getting off, it will show 3 lanes and an arrow flashing on the off ramp. Or if there are 2 exit lanes, arrows will flash in both lanes. If you are going straight through the arrows will flash in the straight lanes when you go by an exit. It was great going through the spaghetti bowl in Las Vegas.

It doesn't do that. But it prints money, so it's a wash.

Google Maps does not have lane assist. This is a feature that I would like to see in Google Maps in the future. I have this feature on my old Nokia phone using Ovi Maps. Lane assists is really handy because some places, it is not obvious which lanes you need to be on. For instance, sometimes all lanes allow you to go straight. Sometimes only the left lane or the right lane is for going straight and the others are for turning. It is very handy in multi-lane highways and interchanges and allows you to get into the correct lane ahead of time instead of at the last minute.
It is only compatible with devices with 800x480 screens. Support for other screen resolutions should be available at some future time.
I currently use Google Maps for navigation while in Canada. If I go to the US, I use Navfree. The US version also has maps for Canada and Mexico, so you don't have to switch from international version to the US version when driving across the border.

I have a Garmin and not only does it have lane assist but it shows a "picture" of the exit so you know what it looks like. Now THATS cool.
