Default Galaxy S3 no longer connects by USB cable to Windows 7 64 bit

Hello everyone,

I usually connect my S3 directly into a Windows 7 64-bit laptop with a USB cable and can then browse the phone just fine with Windows Explorer. I don't use Kies.

Just in the last couple of hours, it has stopped working.

The USB port is fine, because if I put a flash drive in it instead, that is detected and can be browsed.

If I plug in the S3, nothing happens. No USB icon in the notifications bar, no charging, nothing. This wasn't happening yesterday.

There are no yellow triangles in Device Manager, so I'm stumped.

Can anyone offer any clues as to how to go about working out what's wrong?

Try another USB cable. They sometimes go bad.

Thank you so much Nailzer, another cable worked immediately.

How strange. Why do they go bad? There's no moving parts, and they don't seem to be subject to a lot of wear and tear.

In any event, you've really helped me out, thank you.
