Default Wi fi issue - please help

I'm sure this has been asked about 100 times before, but despite my HOURS of research I can't find a fix to this issue. I purchased the phone two days ago and I haven't been able to connect to the wifi. I'm convinced it's an issue with the phone because all of my other devices (ipods, laptops) work fine. I'm positive I entered the information correctly: it just keeps on saying "Connecting" or "scanning" forever (no error message, it just keeps on trying to connect). I turned off wifi power saving modes using the *#0011# code but it still does not work.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

THANK YOU TO ANYONE WHO TRIES TO HELP ME

Can you connect to any wifi or is it just at your home that you can't? I would see if you can connect at a place that has free wifi. Always try doing a factory reset to.

I had this happen on my old Incredible and after trying everything on the phone, I went into my router settings and changed the WiFi channel. For some reason that worked and it connected right away. Didn't affect the other devices on my wireless network at all. To this day I don't know why it made a difference.

Thank you both for your responses.

redrider67: Haven't had the chance to check out other networks, but that seems essential to figuring out the problem. I'll check that out tomorrow. a factory reset did not work.

Musky: How do you accomplish this? This is clearly a board for the savvy but unfortunately I don't have much experience in this area. My router is a Linyksys WRT-400N

Anybody else have any ideas? I can't believe this is supposedly one of the best phones on the market and I can't even connect to wi-fi. Ridiculous.

PS: If anybody knows of other support forums where I could ask for help, I would appreciate a nudge in the right direction

Depending on your router, you should open your browser and type in your routers home page URL into the browser address bar (usually 192.168.1.1) Then enter the password if asked for (default=Admin but it could/should have been changed)

Go to the "wireless settings" and you should see "wireless channel" use the drop-down menu to change the channel. For instance, if it is set for "9" set it for 5, or 7, etc.

You might have to reboot the router when finished, which is just unplugging it and waiting a minute or two and re-plugging it into the power.

I hope this helps!

Happy gs3 wont connect to a d link

I went to a friends house and could not connect to their d link router. I have the gs3 my wife has the gs2. The only device that would connect was galaxy 10.1 tab. After reafing of all the other woes on here I tried the *#0011# and turned off the standby mode and my phone connected instantly. Befor that it would pass authentication but not got an ip address.

Thanks for the help:-)

You almost certainly have the same problem I had with my old WRT300N LinkSys router.

Basically they're a bit crap and don't work well with Android. For some reason it won't assign it an IP address. If you go into the router settings and manually assign an IP address to your device it should work.

I had to do it with my HTC Desire, SGS3, Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Nexus 7. All worked fine then. However eventually I bought a new router because the WRT300N was crap for other reasons as well.

Just Google Linksys WRT400N assign ip address and it will direct you to how to do it.
