Unhappy S3 (stock T-Mobile) reboot loop!

Hey,

My S3 (T-Mobile UK, stock OS - think it's on 4.0.4) is stuck in a reboot loop, and just keeps showing the white Samsung Galaxy SIII logo before restarting after a second or two.

Before it did this, someone complained that they were trying to ring me and my phone was randomly off (despite having half battery). Upon turning it on again I think it might have crashed while playing the Samsung bootup sound (the audio started glitching) and then the next time it booted, the phone had forgotten all my settings (such as the battery percentage being shown in the notification bar), wallpaper, but bizarrely had remembered the location of all the desktop icons.

I immediately went to try to call the person who was trying to get in touch with me, and watched the names of all the contacts in my recent call log slowly disappear in front of my eyes. Now, the majority of my contacts have gone, and the numbers in the call log show "unsaved"! What the hell is going on?!

Anyway I called the person back from memory and about ten minutes into the call the phone restarted again, and ever since, whenever I power it up it is stuck in a reboot loop, just showing the white Samsung Galaxy SIII logo before restarting after a second or two.

The last thing I did before it randomly turned off was look at a notification from the SwiftKey Flow Beta trial telling me it had updated language packs to download, and I selected to download an updated English language pack (my current setting). Whether that is related I have no idea.

Any advice on how to fix this would be incredibly gratefully received!
Many thanks.

Default This issue isnít good

Fredthefish this issue is a very unpleasant one.

Especially if the phone wonít even turn on all the way and itís stuck in a loop at the logo, this means that you canít get into your phone to backup anything or pretty much even use the phone. And if you canít use your phone then what is the purpose of having one?

I have heard of this issue before and itís NOT a pleasant one. From what you are describing it sounds like the phone crashed and getting it back up and running might be tuff.

Here is what I recommend you do.

1. Remove the memory card if you have one and power the phone off and see if it powers back on all the way. If it does then back it up to a computer and factory data reset the phone. If you put the memory card back in and the phone starts power cycling again then your memory card might be defective. Try and format it and then try it again. If the phone power cycles without an SD card then proceed to step 2.

2. Since you canít get into your phone at all then youíre going to need to TRY a reboot from the fastboot screen. For this step you basically do the steps in #3 (the step below this one) except select reboot/restart instead of reset device.

3. PERFORM THE MOTHER OF ALL FIXES and do an alternative reset or more commonly known as a HARD RESET. If you need help doing a hard reset then check out this article on how to hard reset an Android phone.

4. If the reset doesnít work then you should look into your replacement options such as warranty, Insurance, or purchasing options.

Good Luck my friend

Sincerely,

~James~

Hey,

Thanks very much for the reply. I have tried all of your suggestions and am unable to get into the soft/hard reset menu as the phone is always stuck on the boot cycle any time I touch the power button (or plug the USB cable or charger in).

Any idea what might be the cause of this? I would like to definitely avoid this happening again in the future if possible.

I have been on the phone to t-Mobile and they had me try all of your suggestions, plus Samsung Kies, and the woman even admitted that she was checking Youtube for tutorial videos(!), but eventually she offered to arrange for the phone to be sent in for repair/replacement.

Thanks again for your help!

Default No problem Fredthefish

No problem Fredthefish

This issue sucks, as of what caused it or what usually causes it is not entirely clear.

I have heard of a phone simply running slow the user turned it off and then back on and it wouldnít boot up successfully from then on. The hard reset fixes it maybe 50% of the time the other 50% requires replacing.

REMEMBER your phone NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY POWERED OFF for the hard reset to take hold, or else it WILL NOT WORK.

Make sure itís NOT plugged in when you try it.

Sorry Fred it sounds like you just hit the unlucky lottery.

Enjoy your SIII though, I know you will love it!
