For those that do not know me...I have had the great opportunity in the past few years to hold in my hands just about every flagship smart device that Samsung has offered, weeks-months prior to their release.

S2, Skyrocket, Note, Tab 10.1, Note 10.1, s3, Note 2 the Samsung LTE enabled camera etc.

I received a call tonight that I should be at a place at a time and this is what I have for now

Ok..preface...the following contains no information from Sprint, or Sprint sources. I have seen no information leading me to believe or providing release dates specs or anything at all from Sprint, my employer. The following information is from a trusted source close to or within Samsung.

Sprint and Verizon are getting some sort of Note tablet, and soon. I was told 10.1, but could possibly be 8 or I could see both.

On to the good stuff.

Just about all that you have read or seen in the last 24 hours is true.

Snapdragon processor seen in photos is likely correct. (though could change prior to release, they have done it before)
Reps have been given specific instruction that NO benchmark apps are to be downloaded to the devices.

No Spen

5" display. Similar design to the Note 2 but less rounded edges from what can be determined.

It is "rumored" that phones exist and are kept under lock and key until after the announcement. They can not leave the building currently. You can bet once they do I will get one in hand.

There are tons of new features and apps... gesture controls...the smart phone is getting scarily smart at recognizing what you are doing and responding without you even touching the phone

The phone will have RF for controlling Samsung media devices such as TV and such.

An optional worn device can track vitals and work with an app within the phone..health type junk.

multiple home screen/lock screen options not present before

pedometer

so on and so forth.

the real meat won't come until I can get the device in hand.

I am going to link screen shots...not my work...just the information I was able to confirm.

more to come......

this is what a lunchbox phone looks like...a phone encased in resin to hide the true design/shape
New photos of Samsung's Galaxy S3 prototype with home button appeared ~ Samsung Galaxy S3 Blog

links on specs of the s4.

Pay no attention to the supposed pic of the phone...it is my belief that one is fake.

I confirmed speculation ...and will have a device in hand just as I did with the past devices. Sorry...no reason for me to have to explain myself beyond that....my posts in the past with other devices speak for themselves with in depth details and pictures prior to anyone else having them.

Be patient.

Can you confirm if the pictures released today of the Chinese variant S4 with dual sims looks anything like the actual real life phone?

I'll admit that I don't understand most of the specs and how they compare to the S3, but from what I can see, it all sounds intriguing. I'd imagine the real good stuff will come once Thursday hits.

I really don't see a major upgrade from the S3. The whole eye detect and scroll is not a seller to me. I don't see what they can pull out of the hat to wow me at this point. In other words it wont be a day one pre-order for me with the S4 like it was for the S3.

Agreed. I don't even use the smart stay or motion software they have on the s3.

Am I the only one who actually likes the design of the S3? I'm glad they're advancing that design personally.

Finally! I feel like I'm on my own with this, went on The Verge and all the comments were just calling the design ugly. Personally I find the S2 ugly. I just like going against the grain I guess

Lol coming from an s2, I really do like the design esp the physical home button.

If it wasn't for the slipperiness, I wouldn't even have a case on it to show off the device for how it looks

but because of that, I had to pick up a defender for her 2 hours after unboxing

I've always liked the design, the only thing I don't like about the phone is the curved glass but not because it doesnt look good.

But because it's impossible to apply a screen protector without is being obvious and looking weird.

I like the S3 design but..... If there is not a design change then why all of the secrecy around the product? It is only going to disappoint people once little Jeremy whips it out of the box.

Samsung's hype machine is really firing up for this one. They kept the S4 under wraps for the whole year and now they've got all these teasers and everything. It's working to be fair, all this stuff is hitting the tech press.

Realistically how many ways can new smart-phone be designed? I actually like curvy design of GS3 and fine with some advance from that shape rather than square-ish blocky shape just like millions of other phones.

I don't know....I just took a look at the new HTC One, and it's something I think I'll at least give a close look before pulling the trigger on the SGS4.

I'm a Samsung fan (I have Sammy TVs, SGS2, Tab 10.1, Nexus 10, and even a Washer & Dryer), so I'm very familiar with their build quality and cutting edge tech.....but to answer your question on how many ways are there to skin a cat....HTC did one good with their new flagship.

Stereo speakers would have been nice, many have complained about the plastic casing (specifically the slick plastic used in the SGS3), home button requiring larger bottom bezel, etc.

The SGS4 will be a premium product, and an excellent upgrade for anyone coming off a 2yr contract (or an iPhone ;-p), but if I had a S3....I'd have some reservations on picking up the S4, unless there is something else substantial to be revealed.

Remember though, that new HTC has no removable battery and no microSD card slot. Samsung seem to be the only company keeping that stuff in their flagships these days.

Plus that aluminium body will scratch easily, the plastic Samsungs are far more scratch resistant despite feeling cheaper.

Well, I don't see how One design is that new and distinctive. To me it looks way too much like iPhone5 in overall proportion. And I'm not fan of that two buttons layout. I think HTC is going in the direction of Apple design more so than Samsung recently.

I feel that the One is new and distinctive for Android. Remember, HTC trail-blazed the aluminum body for their Windows phone over two years ago. So, once again, who really copied whom, you know?

I agree on your other points though, especially the buttons. I'm confused by that move.

I've also always liked a nice utilitarian plastic over dressy bodies. I'm also an ugly case fan, because I like rugged first, pretty second.

I'm really glad that the SGS4 may be retaining the removable battery and physical sd card.

The two phones are distinctively different (so far as we know) and to me, that adds up to more consumer choice, which I'm in favor of every time.

The aluminum body is something samsung needs to take note on. These are $600+ pieces of equipment. Make it feel like one.

Htc's build quality and camera has always been the best. We can probably add sound to that list as well.

Removable battery is a moot point for me. I get home at the end of the day with 75-80% left.

I can see removable storage a problem for those who are on limited data plans, but I'm unlimited.

Well, they've settled their differences out of court. They pay them anyway, might as well use it.

HTC's build quality is awful. My HTC Sensation broke after a few months of use and my previous HTCs haven't fared too well either. They look and feel good but the actual hardware is very unreliable.

I don't see what's so bad about plastic. It's durable, scratch resistant, and lets the signal into the phone.

Besides, most people put their phones in plastic cases anyway so what's the big deal?

Fair enough, I rarely use it either, it's just nice to know it's user replaceable should I need it, especially if I keep the phone for over a year.

I have unlimited data but I don't see why that negates the need for microSD cards. Cloud services can't replace actual physical storage.

I agree. I went through 3 delaminating EVO screens before I finally gave up on HTC and just kept my old phone.

I am ready...just hope it isn't long till Verizon has it available. My T-bolt is acting up. Enjoyed it, but I like what the S3 has, and figure this will have something new.

Aluminum body can cause issues with some wireless connection and be damaged easily from drop shocks.

Removable battery is moot point only if it's big enough like Motorola is doing with Maxx series. If you get home at the end of day with that much battery left, it's either your phone is Maxx HD, Note 2 or you are not really using the phone much. I'm not aware of any HTC that can leave 75~80% at the end of day with some use as smart-phone.

I get 8 hours of screen on time via wifi streaming media and web surfing on my LTEvo, without babysitting radios or anything else. I average 16 hours per charge and I certainly use it plenty hard.

If you don't like HTC, fine, this is the SGS4 forum, but don't compare years-old performance of one brand against 2013 performance of another and believe its fair, or reasonable.

I'm just stating my own experiences with HTC over a number of years. They've always give me problems in the past and frankly I have no reason to believe they won't do so in the future. Complaints about HTC hardware are very common and their customer service isn't so great either.

Battery life on the Sensation was awful too. Barely lasted a day of light use.

Ditto this is why I still have HTC thunder bolt crap of a phone. I'm waiting on news of the s4 so I can switch over to spring. I need to be able to upgrade. I'll lose my unlimited data too if I resign.

And I've gotten worse battery life on the samsung phones I've owned than on HTC. That stands true for current as well as past models. In fact, I'm typing this from an s3 right now. I end up around 30-40% on it vs 75-80% with my evo. I'm at 65% right now

I'm of the belief you can't make informed decisions without trying the competition.

Personal experiences are just that... Personal. There's a million variables that go into battery life.

Speaking of... Personally, I've hardly ever had to contact a manufacturer for a device, but I wouldn't base my expectations on 2 year old survey data. Sprint's consistently ranked highly in customer satisfaction, but that doesn't mean I always hang up pleased after contacting them.

Samsung and HTC were both quick to respond to contacts I've made in the past.

I stand by my statements on htcs build quality and camera.

Samsungs pros are developer friendliness and marketing.

I never compared years old HTC to brand new phones. Surely they have gotten better on battery life in phones like DNA, One, but they are not still leading the pack. They seem to put slimness on higher priority than battery. If battery is sealed, it should be big enough, otherwise it should be removable in my opinion.

Good points made on both sides. I wasn't so much trying to sell the HTC One over the SGS4 than I was just making the point that there is still room for improvement / innovation on these phones.

Everyone uses their mobile device for different things, and that diversity is the beauty of the Android market. For me (personally), I use it to make phone calls and consume media. Higher quality front facing stereo speakers is a plus. IR ports & well designed remote apps to aid with media consumption at home is also a plus.

Again, they will both be great phones.....but I'm a little disappointed that Samsung didn't take creative liberties in their opportunity for a re-design. With that said, we are talking about a 1-1.5 years to move from design to production & deployment....so I won't give them too hard of a time.

I believe you. I had similar bad on Samsung, not HTC, so that's what I own today.

But - I checked the SGS3 and am definitely checking the SGS4 and perhaps newer Note before deciding anything.

Only difference is I'm not letting my Samsung horror stories get in the way of giving them a fair shot.

Meh, we've already seen the HTC One and it's decent phone, but it's no Galaxy S4.

It was similar last year, the One X was all the rage until the S3 was launched and then nobody gave a crap.

HTC have to release flagship products before Samsung because that way it doesn't look so bad when it's beat hands down in reviews and gives them a chance to get sales from users who just can't wait, if they released afterwards it would just be embarrassing.
