I have to say that the double-facing camera is very much a "solution looking for a problem" to me.

If you are the photographer of the family then you likely have thousands of pictures of your family and few of yourself. This feature lets you be a part of the family photos.

The feature makes me 0% more interested in the phone so I'll call it unnecessary.

Yes it does... in a weird and creepy way. Just like taping a picture of yourself into every picture in a family album.
