And that's even just the 16GB model. I paid 499 for the Garnet Red one at CPW - but 600+ .. Thanks I'll pass. But given the free option with contract you can see that they aren't interested in selling sim free.

Let's hope that they are just taking a punt. And you can't even get the free tablet with the SIM free. All the reports I've read have said it would be in the £500-£550 range.

To be honest, it is good marketing .. Maybe they hope for similar hypes you see with the iPhones where people pay stupid money on eBay. "Oh, I can get it first day of its release so I don't mind spending £630 with CPW" ...

At least with the S4 all carrier will be releasing it so I am sure there are at the "normal" price once released.

My contract won't be up until September so I shall see how expensive the SIM free is then (contract is on iPhone and I already bout the SIM free S3 so not gonna spend another fortune)

I've just seen that Amazon are now taking pre-orders at £629. That's a lot of money for a phone. I am not sure it is worth it.

Plain and simple: no ... well not to me anyways ... I am sure the price will come down once it is readily available.

I'm not very familiar with pricing differences between the US and the UK, but $950US is insane! I'm planning on buying one outright but won't spend that much, it's a deal breaker. It'll be interesting to see how US pricing will be.

So far all I've heard is AT&T is subsidizing at $250 for a 2 year contract which is $50 higher than the S3.

The S3 didn't come down in price for a long time. In fact, I think it is only recently, probably because the S4 is on its way. I may very well stick with my S3. (But I am tempted by the Asus Padfone Infinity )

But I can't understand this pricing policy - it's insane.

Well if the S4 costs the same after the pre-order stage then they certainly made my decision a lot easier - whether I buy one or not... I re-consider in September at contract renewal ...

I bought the S3 from Carphone Warehouse last June for £499.99. At that point no-one could get hold of the pebble blue except for CPW.

Charging £629 is a joke and I hope this comes down very quickly or I'll never be buying a flagship Samsung device at launch ever again!

The S3 was £500 at launch from Amazon and other outlets

It was - and the S4 is £129 more than that. It doesn't make sense.

It's not uncommon for pre-release prices to be silly. As has been said, if it's still at that level when stock is available then we can start getting upset.

Note for Americans: prices in the UK include 20% sales tax, so that's more like $800 the way you quote prices. And it's the off-contract price. It is however more than a 32GB iPhone 5, and more than £100 more than the HTC One, so I'll be surprised if it turns out to be the real price for long.

To import the international version from Negri it's $798 for the 16GB. The imported versions are typically $100-$200 over the cost of buying them outright from a carrier.

So I'm guessing it will likely be $600-$650.

$249 with contract is going to seriously impact GS4 sales. Either that or people will move to Tmo, who is offering the GS4 for $99 upfront.

Oh my god! A 16GB sim-free S4 for £630! That's 16GB people!

No way am i forking out £600 for a 16GB plastic phone no matter who it's by. If that's the price on CPW and Amazon, then others will surely follow suit. I don't know if greed or stupidity is to blame here.

Given the free phone option with contracts you can see that they aren't really interested in selling sim-free. They've probably deliberately set the sim-free price high to try and make their contract options seem more attractive even though that pricing is just as bad! Seriously, check out EE. Clove however are selling it for £580.

Not only have Samsung copied Apple, they ARE Apple now with ridiculous pricing like that! I really was contemplating the S4 but i'm not going to be an early adopter with insane prices.

I think Carphone Warehouse have fallen in love with themselves, thinking they are some high class operation. I have not seen any other retailers trying to rip people off with the S4 price yet, CPW need to be named/shamed/punished by whatever watchdog/tribunal you have in the UK.

$200 to $250 for a subsidized just-released flagship phone is about what I would expect to pay for one in the USA. I don't know why people in the US are whining about the $200 to $250 price tag. I don't mind it, I'll buy it anyways.

Totally agree. I remember having to pay $299 when I bought my DROID Charge almost 2 years ago on it's launch day, so $200 - $250 for the S4 seems very fair.

Can't please everybody I guess.

The marketing gurus at the big telecoms have totally pulled the wool over the masses eyes. Subsidized phones are a huge long-term loss. I'll pay more up-front for a non-subsidized phone here but save hundreds in the long run even if I eat the phone in depreciation after two years.

Unlocked Mobiles are selling it for £529 - much more sensible. I haven't heard of Unlocked Mobiles but they get good reviews. Does anyone know of them?

And Amazon have come down to £589.

T-Mobile's price doesn't matter to me. Why? Because their coverage sucks in my area, worse than Verizon and I didn't think that was possible. AT&T Wireless is the only carrier that covers my area with usable coverage.

Gutted about the pricing, I just reduced myself down to a HTC Wildfire, coming from an S2, then Iphone, Xperia S, then Xperia Z (sent it back as good as it is, imo I didnt like it). I like the change phones quite often and now I have the wildfire, I thought I'd save my money and actually have the S4 for a while thinking of around about a £500-£530 sim free price range. Now contemplating and looking around. And no-way am I paying stupid price on contract just to get the phone I want.

I picked up a refurbished s3 last October from amazon for £350, and it was as new, so I'm hoping that the s4 will come down a few months after release.

The price will come down once it's available, it's understandable that some sites will try and take advantage of the huge demand for this phone.

More concerned as to which versions will be available here in the UK on launch, hopefully both but it wouldn't surprise my if the Exynos version showed up a bit later.

Ridiculous pricing. Another reason I'm highly tempted to look for another phone.

Yes, Samsung have dropped the price of the S3, and for anyone looking for a phone, but not necessarily the latest and greatest, who looks at the S3 for what it actually is instead of compared to the S4, then it is a fantastic phone, and easily worth buying at the reduced price.

It's a good business model. I suspect the S3 will keep on selling and selling.

I was almost tempted to put an order in at unlocked mobiles just now.. I wonder if they will whack the price up as the release date gets near, or if the other retailers will drop their prices?

They do say, in their terms and conditions: All prices and offers are valid only for the month in which they are published. So I would think you would be safe. Also they say that they have a 7 day no quibble money back guarantee.

I would be surprised if the £600+ suppliers didn't drop their prices. (Carphone Warehouse: I'm looking at you.)

The only problem is that if you return within the 7 days it needs to be unopened, which means that you can't send it back if you don't like it, unlike other retailers such as amazon. Also, they say that any returns are subject to a 15% restocking fee, so you'd probably be better off just selling it yourself (not that I can imagine I'd not be happy with it!)

Wonder what the no contract price will be in the US?
I sure hope they have at least the 32GB at launch.

Well this make AT&T people happy. It's only 199 for the 16gb after all, 250 for 32gb

AT&T to offer 16GB Samsung Galaxy S 4 for $200, 32GB for $250

What's with AT&T getting the jump on Sprint and Verizon with pricing & preorder info?

I haven't heard anything yet and that's the final piece of the puzzle for me. I don't want to lose my unlimited data at Verizon so buying one outright is my only option if I want to stay with them. Last I heard they haven't even acknowledged the phone so I'm not confident we'll hear anytime soon.

Having said that they'll probably announce something tomorrow.

That unlocked mobiles site looks legit... Be good to know anybody else who have bought from there.. That site is cheapest by some distance..

Temptation got the better of me and I put in an order this week.
Just hoping it goes through Ok - well, they've already taken my money. Good job I put it on an interest free credit card .
Now, who wants to buy a galaxy s3?

My 64GB Exynos version will be $1000. Waiting till I get more details first, I'm just waiting on Samsung to release some general & 64GB availability/RRP info on the S4 before I make a move, I need that gap filled as a bit of a comfort thing I guess, otherwise I'm ordering something that doesn't exist.

That's the only reason I don't buy from companies who take your money before they actually have any stock for a good while AND things could change all of a sudden.
I much prefer a pre-order which is just that..... You pre-order then sit back and wait until they email you to say "if you wish to continue with your order please confirm".

Agreed, if I'd have had to pay for it on a debit card and have the money go out straight away, I would have definitely waited.

So the unlocked mobiles price has gone up to £575 in line with other retailers, with those who preordered bring offered it for £555.
Still cheaper than everywhere else sim free but I'm not happy about the price hike, especially as they'd already taken my money.
