Correct. The rub is Samsung publicly stated the lack of app storage was an easy fix with an sd card. That along with carriers willingly pushing misinformation is the issue. Such false propogation only serves to abate pushback from customers on the lack of 32gb models. Which is perhaps the point of it. That sounds quite scandalous!

Either that or systemically lazy ignorance.

Hi Frank. I merged your thread with the thread for Verizon orders. Sorry for any confusion.

most customers won't care. for most customers 9gb of app space will be more than they'll ever need. it seems only the small percentage of overall customers in the bubble of forums are impacted. by the semantics game.

expert semantics by samsung. app space can technically be freed up by moving media and files from internal memory to sd card. so technically they can claim to be correct in saying it is an easy fix with an sd card.

mods - perhaps we can now merge this thread with the 32gb thread discussion?

I agree most people won't care but technically no you cannot free up space that way if the people already put their music and pictures on the sd card.

You get 9 gbs for apps and that's it.

if they have the media on internal memory then technically you can. again...semantics.

by the way, i'm by no means advocating for samsung. personally i think they made a mistake in not just coming out and saying that internal storage is what it is and with the addition of the sd card the vast majority of s4 owners will never experience shortage of space for apps. they should have head this off at the pass a long time ago instead of letting it grow into a potentially damaging situation.

I do not agree that it is a small percent of people only in the forums, since by premise of a bubble, a bubble is a small sample of the population. The issue is bigger than the forums by mathematical default and without any need to exaggerate with an exponential extrapolation. I prefer polynomials, since tends to have less regressive based bias

Added:

Sales mix of the S3 32Gb ranged from 10% to 15%, so just from that and the less storage of the S4 and app size growth (and content and OEM marketing of 3D games)- it has to be higher than that now. Going by pur apparent "knowns", my guess is the impact in a few months is up to 25%, since will take time for some to start the app juggling and others to appreciate they were duped about putting apps on the sd card. Why have a fancy chipset device and push high data content if you can not use it? That will be some folks practical conclusion, but the issue would be reduced by offering larger storage models.

Added 2:

Weighted impact will probably be 15%, since even though some bought the 32GB, that does not mean all used the storage.

i highly doubt 25% of users will have space problems. the real world stats from the playstore don't support the sentiment most people are purchasing and using space intensive apps.

you also assume that most people who purchased a 32gb device actually needed that much space or needed that much space for apps.

google and the manufacturers might have better info than us?

inb4 Rushmore brings up lack of 32gb or not enough space. lol jk Rushmore.

Mine has shipped as well. It has estimated delivery of Wednesday 5/22/2013 by 4:30pm, picked up Memphis, Tennessee. Now it just needs to make its way to Indiana.

You know what sucks, it is in transit and landed 5 minutes away from me. Now it's going to be shipped to a location an hour away before it comes back and gets delivered on Tuesday. Had I known this I would have call Fedex in the neighboring town and picked the S4 up today!

It would appear as there is no shortage of these, as I placed a full-retail price pre-order just a 2 hours ago and I have already been charged the $649.99. I'm hoping it'll ship by Monday... we'll see.

Edit: I was right, there doesn't seem to be a shortage... I have a tracking number already, and due to get it Wednesday afternoon Interesting logistics.. they even did a Sunday FedEx pickup @ 1:35 PM in MEMPHIS, TN.

Does anyone know how verizon determines delivery dates especially for those who preordered the 25th of April? A lot of people who preordered the 25th either got Tuesday or Wednesday as their delivery date. Just curious. Thanks

I feel like most, if not all if shipped today should be Tuesday because of the two day shipping. Live in Tucson, AZ and it's shipping from PA with a delivery/arrive date being on Tuesday. I preordered on May 5th just fyi

The lack of 32 gb is going to be a bigger issue than people think. I have a 32GB external for all my media, yet I've already run out of internal space due to apps. I don't consider myself an unusually heavy user. I have a few games and quite a few apps. My space requirements have grown dramatically because app sizes have grown dramatically over the last few years. A droid x with an internal 8 GB used to be enough. Now an S3 with 16 GB really isn't any more.

If I get an S4, I'll have to hold out for 32 GB models or pick another phone. I could probably get by with an S4, but resale value is important to me and in a year, the S4s 16 GB will a much bigger issue than it is now and it will be hard to sell.

I too would rather have a 32GB model. I currently have a Razr Maxx with only 16GB internal. All things equal, I figure I would rather have an S4 than the Maxx.

I agree and speaking to stores and a corporate rep, the amount of push-back has surprised them so far. The reality though is how Verizon planned their sales targets for the device. Simply put, numbers are usually understated to the lowest number that achieves their goals. The key here for the people that make the real decisions is their bonuses, so even if they could have sold 10 or 15% more S4's with a 32GB, if their overall targets (for that device segment) are achieved, THEY WILL (probably) NOT CARE.

"Surprise" would be the key if Verizon bother with a 32GB version, as long as their numbers meet at least expectations and their customer install base grows along with their projections. We will probably only see a larger model if key Verizon people think their their purses and wallets might take a hit.

Think Clark Griswold bonus focus for a swimming pool, minus the humor and compassion. Sad, but true.... Just like Metallica said!

nope. it won't. it's easy to come up with a general idea of how most android users use their phone. just look at the top selling apps in the playstore and that will give you a really good idea. you're in a bubble if you think the large majority of android users need more than 8gb of space for apps. even the 32gb king, rush, acknowledges this.

add to that, an sd card is said to be included which will provide space for media so it's not taking up internal memory.

if sales were going to be hurt by lack of 32gb device, we would see that already. the fact is it hasn't hurt sales at all.

people disappointed by lack of 32gb. even the media is making somewhat of a deal out of it, but the reality is that most people aren't heavy gamers or loading huge apps.

that said, my 16gb is on the way and my 64gb card is in the process of being loaded up with all my media as we speak.

The actual context would probably be better served as, "The lack of a 32 model will not hurt their sales PROJECTIONS", since mathematically a 32GB would obviously help increase sales, since people like myself and others would add to them. Those are incremental sales, so inherently more sales.

The issue as noted above is that their sales targets are met, which will always be understated so they achieve their goals and get their fiscal year bonuses. A handful of people make their decisions and they could care less about losing 32GB sales. The 16GB sold at last years 32GB model will look too good from a margin perspective, so why dirty up the view with a 32GB? That would make their pricing position on the 16GB stand out.

Unless there is collective concern with VZW ranks that compromise their targets, a 32GB probably is not happening. Kudos to AT&T for offering the 32GB and good for their customers Verizon though is MILKING customers and their install base and will do this until diminished returns for their "Milking" strategy starts to be evident.

Added:

Easy for me to analyze now with semi-indifference, since after messing with the S4 more, besides the display (which due to surface size and bezel design is easier to crack) it does not run apps tested any faster and runs hotter than the S3.

I would still get one if a 32GB is offered, but this helps me rationalize the apparent reality.

My tracking number has a note that says "Future delivery requested." My expected delivery according to the fedex screen is Wed 5/22.

I have never seen "future delivery requested" on a tracking before. It seems that ALL deliveries will be in the future. So I am guessing that Samsung has specified that the phones must be delivered on the 22'nd. Anyone else have the "future delivery requested"?
