Default SGS4 Contacts List

I notice sometimes when I click on my contacts icon, a message pops up and says 'searching for AT&T contacts'. I usually just hit the cancel button and then it takes me to my contacts. What is that about?

Also, why are the default icon images different colors? Blue, Green, Brown, Pink, etc. Does the color differentiate the type of contact it is or something? I've attached a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

I've wondered the same thing about that AT&T contact thing. I don't know what prompts it to appear either.
