Default No Gmail notifications?

I have a few email accounts, all are working fine except for my gmail account isn't pushing the new emails through to my phone.

Have I missed something blatantly obvious here?

Just to clarify, my other email accounts, when I go into the settings -> sync schedule, I can set it to push. That option isn't there for my gmail account

Hmm, non S4 user here but I have one ordered.

I remember on my iPhone 4s I had to setup my Gmail account as an Exchange account for the notifications to come through. Is there an option to setup an Exchange account on the S4?

Hope this helps...

There is indeed, except when you input all the information on that screen and press next, it says 'Checking incoming server settings', and then gives the error 'Unable to connect to server'

I didn't get my gmail to trigger notifications either, even after setting the gmail app (not the stock email app) to send notifications. I solved the problem by forwarding my gmail to my exchange server

I have mine setup to get them with the gmail app, but having two different apps to look at my emails seems stupid when my s2 used to do it absolutely fine!

I've tried k9 and aqua mail, and probably a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head, and I don't like how they feel at all. The stock email app works a treat, such a shame that gmail (from what I've read) has discouraged the use of push notifications on anything but the gmail app :/

When you set it up as an Exchange account, what did you put in for the server?

Wait, so the Gmail app isn't giving notifications? That's a really big deal. Is it like that for everyone?

My Gmail app IS sending notifications. I want to be able to use one app for all my emails though.

In the server is m.google.com

Google stopped offering Exchange unless you pay. If you already had it on a device it will still work but you can not set it up on any new devices even using the same account info.

If you want push email, the Gmail app works. I forward my non Gmail accounts to my Gmail accounts so I get push for all my emails. I can't reply that way and have to go to the other mail app to reply but atleast the emails come quicker.

How much are they charging and where do I get it? If it's only a couple of quid as a one off I might do it, but if they are wanting x amount every month they can stick it down their greedy filthy japs eye! lol

Were you asking me? I wasn't clear on that. What I did was just go into gmail (on the web) and forward my gmail to my exchange account address. Then when I entered in the email (the exchange email) and the password the phone's mail app just configured it properly. It works for me, but that's not a solution that would appeal to everyone.

That was my experience. I had turned off notification *SOUND* by setting the ringtone to silent, but it just quit showing the notification in the status bar.
