Default changing insurance plans?

How do I go about stopping my VZW plan to the best buy geek squad plan once I get the phone? Now I have the crappy Verizon insurance so I just want to drop it from the Verizon. How do I go about dropping it my bill ?

You're going to have to start by calling Verizon and best buy. Make sure you actually quality for best buys insurance and then cancel the Verizon one

Be aware that Verizon's warranty covers theft, the other doesn't.

I had the same dilemma on Sprint. I had Sprint TEP insurance primarily because it covers loss, theft and full submersion water damage. Geek Squad doesn't cover loss, theft, and doesn't cover full submersion (however BB rep told me if you let it dry off first then bring it in, they can't tell if it was full submersion or not and have been covering those claims anyway).

I decided on dumping Sprint insurance and got the BB Geek Squad insurance. Primary driver was I'm much more likely to drop, break or damage my device then I am to lose it or have it stolen. And if I broke my device on Sprint I'd have to pay like a $250 deductible for a new phone. With Geek Squad you pay $0 deductible for a replacement.

So felt it was a better deal even though it doesn't cover loss/theft, which I found to be unlikely for me personally.

@Bobby,
all the better reason to switch to BB geek plan. Which I am doing once the s4 comes out. Verizon and Sprint as well as the other carrier plans are so over priced. It is not even funny or fare to us customers. I thought 100 bucks were bad , but damn 250 ? That is a whole new phone.

Samsung Galaxy S Insurance

I am not certain what the terms are for Geek Squad protection, but thought I would share this in case.

2 years protection special on the Galaxy S4 for $99 and a $99 per replacement deductible.

I wouldn't say it's a rip off, it covers loss and theft where Geek Squad doesn't. And in all fairness, $250 is still better then paying $650 for a brand new device without upgrade discount.

For people who are prone to losing things, I'd recommend the Sprint TEP plan as then if they do lose it, they won't have to fork over $650 for a new phone. But for people who never lose phones and never have things stolen, then the Geek Squad plan might be a better deal

Pretty comparable. With that you are paying $99 up front, plus another $99, for a total of $198 (assuming 1 replacement).

With Geek Squad, you pay $9.99/mo for 20 months until you are eligible for upgrade, so that's $199.80.

So assuming 1 replacement, they are very similar. However if you never need a replacement then it will end up being $99 cheaper than Geek Squad. Similarly if you replace more then one device, then you pay another $99 (you pay $99 for each replacement), and then it will be more expensive then Geek Squad.

If you never use insurance then this might be a better deal. If you use insurance and are rough on your devices and get several replacements, then Geek Squad would be a much better deal because you get as many replacements as you want and you don't pay any deductible

For geek squad, if you pay the full two years in advance it's about 170 which will save you a few bucks over the monthly plan.

I dont like carrier warranties, they cost so much compared to others, the only positive being the theft protection. But I do recommend looking into a square trade warranty, if you feel comfortable doing it online.

With SquareTrade don't you have to ship your phone to them for repairs or replacement? What do you do without a phone in the meantime? Not sure how BB/Geeksquad works but when I had Sprint Insurance I just took my phone into a store and if it couldn't be fixed right away they would just give me a replacement phone in exchange. Sure I'm positive they were refurbished but I highly doubt you get a Brand New in Box from any insurance claim. I just couldn't see being with a phone for a week or more considering mailing/shipping.

Is BB a walk in and replace?

Best buy will take your phone, give you the option of paying $50 deposit on a really old phone like the palm pre for a loaner, they'll ship your phone to a warehouse for repairs and the same day they ship a refurb to best buy where you go back and pick it up later that week.

You never get your same phone back with best buy, regaurdless of the problem

Not sure about broader practice with Best Buy. My brother's Evo has a cracked screen but still works, instead of them forcing him to use a loaner they told him he could keep it and use it until the replacement arrives, then he'll go into the store to swap them out.

Not sure if that's a new procedure, or if my brother just got lucky. In the past he's had to send it in and he resorted to using his old TP2 in the meantime

Here's another insurance recommendation:

Worth Ave Group | The most trusted electronic device insurance provider

I've used Sprint's TEP and Tmobile's monthly insurance, and switched over when they started raising deductibles. My WAG policy was $130 for 2 years on my note 2, and it covers everything, including theft and water damage. I had to make a theft claim and they paid up within a week.. full replacement value of the phone minus a $50 deductible (you can get 0 deductible as well). Their website can make it difficult to find certain price points (one screen only lets you go to $599 while other's allow up to the full $699 price of the note 2.. And if I were smarter, they also do custom quotes so I could have insured mine for $750 to cover taxes, etc)

Additionally, my father in law has his ASUS transformer tablet insured through them. We broke the screen right after he bought it.. They have you ship it to them, and they had it repaired and returned fairly quickly.

If/when I switch to Verizon for the S4, I'll be keeping WAG (I can simply substitute my MEID and keep the same policy) coverage rather than dealing with a carrier's BS insurance policy.
