Question s4 wont mount blank sd card with unsupported files help?

So I have the new s4 and put in a old sd card I used previously and believe it is emptied, but when I put it in my s4 and try to mount I get an alert saying sd card blank or has unsupported filesystem. Also, when I click mount sd a message pops up asking to format it and loose all data on the card I click yes and still nothing happens. Phone will say checking and preparing sd card and that's about it. Anyone have any ideas I can try?

I had the same problem with My Note 2, I believe that the sd card is faulty and needs to be replaced

This is perfectly possible but before you throw that card away, why not try formatting it in a computer first?
