Question Battery Draining - Google Services

Hi guys, I'm new to Android as I was an iPhone user from the first gen. I got my S4 2 days ago and I love it, however, the battery life is terrible and I found out that Google Services is using 44% of my battery. Is there some setting I can do to turn it off? I am clueless with this phone so I will need to be spoonfed. I really like the phone and I don't want to return it, but if the battery life is this bad I can't keep it.

I charged it last night and unplugged it before bed and when I woke up after 5 hours the battery went from 100 to 70% over 5 hours of standby.

That's some pretty bad battery drain.

I'd start by checking out your sync settings, and making sure apps that you don't need syncing aren't continuously waking up your phone.

Also, you should look into charging overnight, so that's its full and ready to go for you the next day

Well in battery it's saying it's Google Services, what in google I have no idea. I don't want to turn off location services because I use it quite frequently in Facebook and Whatsapp to share my location so it's quite an inconvenience to have to turn it off and on everytime I want to use it.

BTW where is sync settings, I can't find it. Sorry I'm not use to Android yet.

Yeah that's pretty bad. There's something going on with your phone or apps. You need to go through your apps and check to see how frequently they update/sync. You should be able to find that in all the apps settings menu. Also, if you long press the sync button in the notification pull down, it will show you all the apps that the phone syncs. My phones battery is great, especially at standby. With moderate use, which for me was sending about 25 texts and reading a couple of small threads on websites and such, I got home from an 8 hour work day with 76% battery left. I generally average between 65-75 percent after work with lots of texting and some music that is on my music player. (not streamed). Yesterday though, I streamed an hour of Pandora, listened to my music player for about 2 hours and watched 2 and a half episodes of fringe on Netflix while sending texts in between for most of the day before it died. That's pretty impressive to me. I'd say look through your phone and see what you can find. You can try to factory reset it and see if that helps, and maybe download your apps one by one to see if you can find the offender. If you can't fix it take it to best buy and ask one of the Samsung techs. They have them in all the best buys around here. Not sure about your area. If all else fails have them replace it.

If this helps at all, pay attention to "screen on" time a lot more, compared to your iPhone which indicated "usage" time.

Just got mine on June 1st at 9AM. Screen is using 69% and google services is second at 9%. I have weather updating every hour and have used it heavily since I got it. I have most features turned on. I've been getting better battery life than my S3 (which wasn't terribly old, bought it last fall). One thing I could suggest is to turn down your haptic feedback vibration as well as the ringer vibrations. You don't need haptic feedback to vibrate as much the default setting, and it still feels satisfying with button presses. Is google services ranking in at #1 in your battery stats? Just out of curiosity, did you fully drain your battery when you first got it? I always drain the battery before I charge any new piece of electronics, and I make sure to fully drain it for the first 4-5 charges. This conditions the battery, thus giving it the most possible charge it can hold. Try to condition your battery before giving up on this phone.

I always try to charge anything when the battery is low. I also do not use car chargers unless I really really have to as they kill your battery faster than anything.
