Notsure email help

So I just jumped ship on iPhone and joined the land of Andriod users. It's quite a slow process getting used to this phone, and I must say, some of the menu items are located in weird spots, not where I would expect them to be. That said, there was a function on the iPhone that I loved which I can't seem to figure out why it won't do it on my Samsung Galaxy S4.

When I would get new e-mails on the iPhone, not only would a sound be played, but a little red circle showing how many new emails would appear. I had two email accounts on that phone and it would lump the total together but that didn't bother me as long as I could SEE I had a new email without opening the app.

The S4 doesn't seem to do this. Or maybe it's a setting I haven't stumbled across? Any help on setting that up, IF it's an option would be greatly appreciated.
