Default Temperture sensor reading too warm ?

I've tried out a few apps for reading the onboard sensors. Currently using the WeatherSignal one, which is quite good and free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opensignal.weathersignal&feature=se arch_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5vcGVuc2lnbmF sLndlYXRoZXJzaWduYWwiXQ..

I've notice with all the apps I've tried, that the temperature appears to be
4-6 degrees above what it really is. I read that the temperature sensor is
at the bottom of the phone, near the button, is that correct ? Wonder if
anyone else has experienced inaccurate temp readings ? Maybe the
case is acting as an insulator and the phones internals are causing the
rise ? Maybe developers should add a offset to compensate for this. Thoughts ?

I liked the idea of the temperature sensor but a moment's thought will tell you that it's a pretty useless feature.

All modern smartphones get hot and because they are so small it isn't possible to isolate the sensor from this heat. Consequently the temperature reading is always going to be too high.

It's a nice idea but it's fundamentally flawed.

Hi there, glad you like WeatherSignal (we built it) - I'm guessing you have a GS4? Otherwise the temperature reading you'll see will be based on a converted battery temp. reading (accurate when averaged over a crowd but not accurate for each individual user). As for how the temperature measuring stuff works - we had a chat with Sensirion who built the thermometer chip, and talk about how they average out the noise here: http://opensignal.com/blog/2013/06/19/the-shtc1-inside-the-chip-that-powers-weathersignal/
