Thanks for the heads up. Just finished the up date. The only thing I saw was we can move apps to SD card now.

It's been at least an hour now, and I'm only at about 82%. Taking a little bit longer than I planned.

I got the update installed...

Some things changed on the About phone screen.

Model number (No change here. Obviously.)
SAMSUNG-SGH-I337

Android version (No change here.)
4.2.2

Baseband version (Obviously this changed.)
I337UCUAMF3

Kernel version (YAY! We got a kernel update! )
3.4.0-812098
se.infra@SEP-103 #1
Wed June 5 15:49:36 KST 2013

Build number (Obviously this changed.)
JDQ39.I337UCUAMF3

SELinux status (No change here.)
Permissive

Secure boot status (Interesting... this wasn't there before. Wonder what this is all about. )
Type: Samsung

Anyways, the update seems to have solved most if not all of the major issues that we had with the device. The biggest issue that we had, namely the lag, is... gone, simply gone. I turned the animations back on in Developer Options and this phone is running smooth.

Some interesting things going on with my phone post-update...

I got a error icon on my status bar, saying that my SD card was corrupt. Huh?Anyways, it gave me the option to reformat it, which I ended up doing. Should I have removed the SD card prior to update? Something to consider for those that havent updated yet.

Also, after the install period, the double arrows (software update) icon reappeared with the message connecting with DM server. It eventually disappeared after about 3 minutes.

Cant comment to much on the lag, phone seems the same to me.

So I installed the update on the wifes S4 without a hitch. After about an hour, I noticed a error icon in the status bar. When I selected it, it stated that all kinds of apps were asking for access and gave me options to allow or deny access.

Not sure exactly what it was, I selected the back arrow to get back to the status bar and read more but it then disappeared. Anyone else have this come up on there phones?

For anyone wanting to root or unlock the boot loader so you can install custom ROMs, do not install this update. It removes the current root exploits and removes the Loki exploit also. For people planning to stay stock this is not a problem though. I think all that was in this update was the apps to SD card and patching the exploits

Yep, the Verizon version that released yesterday as well did the same. I posted a stickied PSA in the Verizon Root forum saying as much. Maybe I should do it in the AT&T root forum as well.

Got the ota update last night. Did a before/after quadrant score to compare. The significant improvements on CPU and memory scores might add some credibility to the thought that this update addresses lag.

Question about camera, I heard this update would bring HDR video to the s4. When I opened camera after update it took awhile to load and text popped up saying it was updating camera firmware but I can't find HDR video. Any thoughts?

I did my update, and have noticed a few little things,

The bar at the top is no longer solid black
There are new wallpapers
The active apps widget changed
And yes it seems snappier,

My question is will I be able to make a phone call in this one section of road on my way home that I had no problems with my s2 but the s4 has been causing me grief

I had no issue with the update itself and the phone loaded in nicely, but later today I restarted my phone and it refused to reboot. It got to the AT&T logo and just stalled out. It had to be manually restarted with a factory reset. UGH!!!!!
I am not sure if the update was the culprit, but there were no other changes/downloads to my phone in the past 12 hours, so I am really wondering.

Did the update last night and no issues that I've encountered. Took about 10-15 minutes for the full update.

Default After the upgrade battery improved.

My battery life has improved after this upgrade. Wierd. But I am happy I upgraded. Lost my root but we'll worth it. No more anxiety if I know I am going to be away from a charger most of the day.
Edit: AT&T is my provider.

I currently have a rooted GS4, and I tried to get the software update just because I thought the Apps 2 SD feature was worth it. I completed the download, then at 26% of installation, it said Update Failed and rebooted. What do I do now?

Edit: I tried updating again and it download then also stopped at 26% and said update failed. I really want this update, what do I do?

Its been almost a week since the update was released... and I still have been unable to download it. Both the phone and Samsung Kies state that the software is already up to date. My software version:

One more addition to the update (at least the VZ one): the lock screen now swipes left or right (when you swipe on the clock, rather than the center of the window). You can now have several screens of active apps on the lock screen (e.g. latest emails), plus another screen with about a dozen direct links to apps.

Update on VZW for both of our S4's. Haven't dug in too deep. Noticed the notification bar is more transparent unless an app is open.

Still don't have this update yet...Contacted Samsung and they said to contact ATT. Contacted ATT, spoke with them for almost an hour while they did stuff on their side...never got it working. He told me to factory reset the phone and that should take care of it. Did that this morning and of course it didn't help. Still says I'm up to date. Any ideas/suggestions?

Well, it's official at least in my tiny brain!
After having installed this latest update on both S4's the AT&T S4 had to get a factory reset last week to be functional, and the VZW S4 had to be factory reset today.
Both had the same issue after the update.
Within a matter of hours on the AT&T S4, and a matter of a few days on the VZW S4, both phones got hung up on the restart and refused to boot past the carrier logo portion of the boot. They just stalled out and no amount of battery pulls would correct this. Both required the factory reset to be done manually. UGHHH!!!

Hang in there, all of a sudden, I got my update notification today but I had to do the update twice to get it. INITIAL IMPRESSION: I have noticed that using certain apps. and other activities with the phone are indeed faster and less lag (like pressing "Bluetooth" or "WiFi"), and better WiFi connectivity noted. I'm pleased.

Good to know that people are still getting update notifications, thanks

ATT and Google need to pull their heads out of their asses.... At least my previous iPhone updates were rolled out at once... You didn't have to sit around for two weeks and wonder when your phone will get its update.

One of these days apples hardware is going to catch up with Samsung's and it will be over.

Where's my update!!!!

it's not google, they release updates when they are ready, these releases go to the manufacturers. they implement the update with their own skin and framework and release it to the carriers when it is ready. then the carriers release it. its not like apple, who makes the os and the phones, there are dozens of manufacturers and all are different, so android updating will never be like iphone updating. but dont count on apple to make any big changes, they havent made any in years.

Ok finally able to activate the update. I changed the date to August 7th. Then turned the phone off. Took the battery out. Put it all back together restarted with the phone still set to August 7th then tried the update and it started downloading finally. Not sure which part actually got it going finally but the only new steps I had done is turning the phone off after changing the date and taking out the battery before trying the update again.

I got the update today. AT&T must be offering the update sequentially to prevent their firmware servers from being overloaded.

I'm sure that's what they're doing but when I called their support they weren't even aware of any firmware updates being pushed out. Weird. I had to call them because of this:

Saw Hamnats response about how he got the update (by changing the date)... thanks! I was able to get the update on my original s4. It DID fix the one display issue I was having, so hooray! The problem though was I initiated a warranty replacement because of 1) the display issue and 2) the SD card issue. After updating the original phone, I checked my mailbox at 9pm and the replacement phone was there.

Unfortunately changing the date (no matter how far) on the replacement wouldn't work. I would get software update interrupted your software is up to date. This was crucial to get as I noticed a secondary display issue involving the purple hue and blurring on grey screens while scrolling. I was able to get the update to work eventually but the patch did not fix that issue. It also turns out the original phone had the same secondary display problem and I just havent noticed it.

Also, Samsung Kies would NOT restore apps, ringtones, and perhaps an email setting... couldn't figure out why. Had to resort to using Helium which mostly worked.

Edit: Sorry for the long post. I did want to confirm changing the date did work for me on both phones, however had issues with the newer handset. I let the phone charge all the way for the second one and for some reason after waiting it worked. Just hope they don't release any more updates within the next month because by updating this way REALLY resets the time and you won't be able to update w/o forwarding time again.

One thing that I noticed is although you can now move apps from internal storage to the SD card (and back):

A) A few widgets disappear if you do do. I just moved the app back to internal storage to fix that.

B) All apps that are "moved" to the SD card still leave a stub in internal storage. In some cases, this increases the total amount of storage used by the app when you add up the internal and SD card locations.

C) The only way that an app's data can be moved to the SD card is if there is an option to do so under the in-app settings.

D) The Samsung and other built-in apps cannot be moved.

All in all a nice improvement.

This same thing happened to me. I have a rooted GS4 as well on ATT. It also made it to 26% and then said update failed. I have tried to update 3 times now. Did you ever get this figured out?

unroot your phone and then update and it will work. just be warned that you wont be able to re-root afterwards because they patched the root exploit.
