Default Galaxy S4 Video Tips Series

Hello all,

I am starting a series of videos that will focus on hints and tips for using the Galaxy S4 called Basics. These are (non-rooted phone) tips with each video around 1-2 minutes long and designed to focus on a single topic. So might be very obvious, some might be a little more advanced and others are neat little tricks and different approaches that you never knew existed.

I have previously done very successful videos on the Asus Transformer Prime (150 videos) and the Nexus 7 (100 videos). Here are a few videos just to give you a flavour of my work.

1: How to reorder notification buttons

2. Long press Notification Buttons

3. How to put Apps on Your Lockscreen

I hope you find them useful and I will certainly be adding more in the weeks/months to come

Rob - vgjfelix

I second that! I sometimes have a short attention span, so these were perfect! Keep up the good work.

Here's the first of my regular updates.

In this tip I show you how to setup a page on your lockscreen that either includes a whole host of applications that you can choose, or a camera launcher page.

It was interesting, but I can't imagine not having any security on a smartphone (no password)

Too bad they can't allow you the choice to have a few apps that don't require a password.

Very nice. I'm enjoying your videos!

There is a second method that can be used to take a screenshot on the Galaxy S4. Enable "Palm Motion" under the "My Device" settings tab. You can then swipe your palm across the screen to capture a screenshot.

Here's a link to an article about it:

Thanks for the tutorials. Perhaps should make it a sticky topic, for S4 beginners.

I don't mean to cut steam on your afford. But for the future use, of other new S4 users, here is another great resource, of all the little things you might not know your S4 could do.

A bit of a peculiar one this. Here's how to turn off the earphone notification dock on the SG4:

Just in case you don't know the difference between creating homescreen folders via the default Touch Wiz launcher and other popular launchers.

It's funny you should mention that because I had the exact same comment from someone else about a year ago when I did use an IKEA table! But not anymore, it's a large office desk.

I'm afraid flash is always going to be a bit hit and miss on android browsers so you might have to try another browser. Sorry.

It will probably be a lot easier if you edit the original post and add all of the videos to that instead of creating new posts for them (then you can hit "report" on the other posts and request them to be deleted).

Also wrapping each video in the Hide tag will help the page load a lot faster.

Just a few tips to help clean up and beautify your awesome thread a bit.

Just a few tips to help clean up and beautify your awesome thread a bit.

Then add a new post with "new video added to OP!" in there.

That's how I did the updates for a custom ROM thread I was overseeing. All updates were in the OP, and new posts were added stating something new was there.

A cleanly kept updated thread is much easier to read and keep track of what the updates are.

There is also limitations by forum software on how many images/videos you can hotlink per post. So it's not as easy to keep them all in one post like you're saying as it is links & text. Personally, I'm fine with how he's doing it and am just thankful he is.

Yeah, it's a bit of a conundrum on how to manage the thread but it's easiest for me to just post in the traditional. I would hope that if you like the videos you subscribe to the channel so you can get emailed new vids...

Anyway. Here's a quick power saving tip on your SGS4:

Good tip, but hand air gesture things don't work for me on my phone (VZW MDK). I recommend that you explain via video tip on how to enable and use multi window mode on the S4. I finally figured that out. Thanks.

I never have seen a keyboard come up on my i337 as depicted in your video. But it could be that's because I've been running Nova Prime for so long I've forgotten if the stock launcher does or not. Is this exclusive to TW?

Thanks, but this doesn't appear to work if you have a pattern lock. Maybe it does with the PIN lock. Or it could be my firmware (VZW MDK).

Maybe take the security off, change the screen message and then put it back on. I just put a pattern lock on and my message remained as my custom one.

Anyway, here's another video. The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a floating video option and here's how to use it:

^ That's pretty neat, but too bad it only works with the stock Video player.

I really learned a few things from your video tips. You have a nice clear voice too. Thank you thank you.

I have a question with my S4 & installing the flash player. I followed you explicitly, including permissions, and when I click on the apk app in my download folder, there it is, just like yours, but when I click on the Install
button, nothing happens, no initiating notice, nothing. I have Boat & Dolphin installed, but of course, can't test them til I can see flash player installing.

Any suggestions please would be appreciated. USCellular 4.2.2
