Default I'm (bleep)ing annoyed.

So, after 3 Droid RAZR Maxx replacements due to faulty headphone jack problems, my S4 has a different problem with the same dang thing.

After weeks of wondering why my headphone jack is so sensitive and doesn't want to "just work", I went down to Verizon. I found that every stinkin phone in the store (including the display S4), does NOT have any problems. I used my ear buds and listened to the same thing on a few and found they worked how mine SHOULD WORK. They snap in and stay. Mine doesn't snap in well at all. It is very sensitive and cuts out completely if I barely touch it, once I plug anything in. I've never abused or dropped my phone.

So, after going with the installment plan and therefore paying full price, in 2 days I will be using someone's old REFURBISHED PHONE.

Next time I'm really going to put my phones through the ringer and check for any and every problem. What really annoys me is that it will be like owing money on a car that was new but is now a used replacement. Next time I'll just use my ghost line.

Be aware Galaxy S4 potential buyers!!!

I think that's great advice regardless of the make or model.

I assume you didn't have that clear gel case on over the back.

No I don't have a type of case they affects the operation of my headphone jack. I checked it without my case on and it makes no difference.

I'd try another set of headphones just to be sure.

I have tried many different ones with the same result. Thanks for the idea though!

it is a new phone, maybe you could claim warranty. Clearly a defect, and not damage as result of your usage.

The USA S4s have a 1 year factory warranty against defects.

I know, I'm getting a free warranty replacement. What's making me so mad is that I've been so careful and paid full price, yet I soon won't have a new , virgin (unused) S4 anymore. @#$% the (pathetic) 14 day return policy....

If it helps any... I've had several replacement phones, especially in the S3 phase, that were supposed to be factory refurbs. In every single case it was impossible for me to tell that they were not new phones. Absolutely no indication anywhere, in any part was there signs of wear or previous use.

I have found the same thing to be true for me. I've had 1 refurb OG Droid, 3 refurb RAZR Maxx's, and that doesn't count my 5 refurb Env2's , although the last one was broken right from opening.

With my smart phones I haven't found any issues with them. It would just be nice if I had found this within 14 days.

You are getting a refurbished phone because you are getting it from Verizon. if you have the warranty repair done by Samsung, they can fix the actual new phone you have now.

Also, in cases like this, I've found that if I call Verizon and talk to them, I can get them to send me a brand new phone. I'm not saying that will work when you've had the phone for eight months, but if you have it for five or six weeks, you can usually work something out.

That makes sense. I got mine the day after launch day, over 2 months ago on Memorial day weekend. When I had the headphone jack on my Maxx go out the 3rd time, I called instead of going in. They agreed to send me the RAZR HD which was better in some ways, worse in others.

Got to love Costco's 90-day return/exchange policy. I just swapped my 30-day old S4 for another new one off the shelf. This was due to the odd soft-bricking behavior while charging that I posted about. The new one, so far, seems perfect.

I would have gone there, but they can't do the installment plan like I did

I am not familiar with US consumer protection law but in the UK you would have a right to a replacement new phone, not a refurbished one. If it is broken already, it clearly wasn't fit to be sold in the first place.

Added to which, there is a one year manufacturer warranty so you shouldn't be getting a refurbished phone no matter what.

The replacement S4 is working very well. No problems like I had before. Let's just hope it was a fluke lemon and is very rare!
