Android Device Manager now live, finds lost droids and wipes data

go there click the android device manager link

you may need to log into your google account.

your phone "should" show up with gps location.

Good Luck :/

did you try https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager

?

does it pull up the location?

Unfortunately you can't remote wipe without setting it up before hand but you might be able to get a GPS fix

Other, then reporting it stolen to your carrier, so it becomes "locked" and makes the phones worthless...

No

I just tried this and nothing. Also did what the directions state on the help page and still nothing. Maybe I'll try again later.

So there's no way i can get my phone then. Best i can do is not let anyone else enjoy it by blocking it. right?

Most "user" available tracking software requires you to have it already installed on the phone.

the manager I linked is from Google so it doesn't. It's possible the phone is "off" or the person is somewhere inside where they don't get GPS.

I would try the site a few times of a couple hours.

Sadly it is highly unlikely you will ever see that phone again.

Do you have phone insurance or house contents insurance?

You don't need to, your provider has the correct one in their system for your account (its how they link the account,#,phone)

Just tried it now and it worked. Hopefully they stabilize it so that it works every time and not just when it wants too.

I don't know if this will help you or not. My daughters phone was stolen a few weeks ago. I signed up for the trial version of family locator with Sprint. You would have reactivate the phone(you can have it deactivated later), and it would have to be on and in sprints service area. I don't who your carrier is, but maybe they have a similar plan. Good luck.

Try this app found in the Google Play Store:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb

Description
Plan B is your last resort to find your missing phone.
This is the first and only 'find my phone' app that you download AFTER you've already lost your phone. Having Lookout on your phone is the best way to protect your phone and find it fast, but use Plan B if you have already lost your phone and didn't have Lookout installed.

Best to try those location apps with the GPS off and see what results you get before you actually need them. I have not had much luck with them. However, if you have location services enabled, Cerberos can locate your phone. A thief can quickly switch off GPS. But it will take more of a determined effort to turn off location services. Or so I've read.

I recently switched from Lookout to Cerberos because of this. I've also started leaving the GPS on all the time having learned that the GS4 will not excessively drain the battery by doing so. The GPS is only tasked when needed.

I just installed lookout on 2 of my devices but it only locates the last one on which I installed the lookout. Is there a way to locate more than 1 device.

I would guess using more than one gmail address (or other address) for your Play Store install.
