Default No sound at startup

Hi I've just got a s4 the other day and didn't realise that when I switch it on there was no sound at start up also when I lock or unlock the phone no sound unless i have the headphones in then i can hear it through them and when I input a number on keypad no sound even when they are selected in settings. It plays music videos fine I'm quite baffled I've only had it two days please any suggestion other than change phones I'm with 02 if that helps thanks in advance

Are all four volume bars maxed out in sound settings? System sounds have their own volume setting.

I guess it depends on your carrier. For Sprint, all 4 volume sliders are available by default. Why would O2 disable it?

Settings -> My Device -> Sound -> Volume: Media, Ringtone, Notifications, and System. Boot sound, lock screen and the keypad are controlled by the System slider.
