It has been random for me. Sometimes they show up, sometimes they don't. It's far from perfect.

Are you using an aftermarket launcher? Like smart launcher or nova launcher?

Perhaps trash the app and try installing again?
I use it daily, with Nova Prime launcher, bunch of widgets and mods, and it works like charm, despite running along so many non native apps.

There could be some other app that is interfering with it. Do you have any other notification utilities ?

Check your Accessibility Services, those are known to interfere with things like notifiers..

I know its an old thread but I just thought it might help others. I had a similar issue on my Galaxy S3 running Nova Launcher Prime. To fix it what I did was:

1. Open Facebook Messenger
2. Click on the settings wheel on the top right
3. Click on 'Chat heads' to open its options
4. On this page make sure Chat heads in On
5. Unckeck 'Hide when using apps that take up the full screen'

That should sort it out.
