Default Cracked glass

Well, looks like I'm off to Best Buy in the morning. Dropped the phone about 1.5 feet and this was the result. Landed in my dogs food bowl.

I had my screen cracked very badly. Sent it in to Samsung for repair. I don't expect to have it back for 4 months at the least.

I live in a 3rd world, and even here it doesn't take more than 10 days.
Time to move. I have a spare room

I have the best buy insurance, so a replacement will only take 7-10 based on previous experience. One thing I'll never complain about is best buys insurance. Has been worth it for the last 2 phones I've had.

Otterboxes are wonderful for preventing things like that, even if they are expensive

While I don't doubt the efficacy of Otterboxes, they do have the substantial drawback of turning a slim and light phone into some sort of 90's style Fonezilla that needs extra large pockets or one of those funny holster things.

I have to say, I'm not a fan.

My wife has a commuter case. It's nice. But I don't like the added bulk.

A similar thing happened to me. I had the S-View case on it at the time ( I know this offers little to no protection ) dropped it from about 2.5 feet about 10 days after I got it. No insurance... Verizon insurance is a joke. 8 additional USD a month and a $100 deductable... but not I have to live with a shattered screen. The cheapest (reliable) replacement option is around 180USD. does anyone have any suggestions for how I can get the screen fixed for cheaper?

literally did this as well 2 days ago. Im trying to figure out what to do as well.

I think i should be capable of replacing the screen but i'm wary of all the screen replacement kits i'm seeing on amazon and ebay. None of them specify that it is Gorilla Glass 3 and a few of the reviews have comments like "doesn't feel the same" and "doesn't quite fit".

I'm thinking of taking it to a shop for repair.

My S4 is slippery and to thin to hold comfortably in my hand naked. With my Outterbox Case on, it feels much better in hand and I can grip it better.

Seeing that the S4 screen seems to crack easily, a really good case is a must. (If you don't want a cracked screen/damaged phone.) I have a white/gray Outterbox Commuter case and a belt holster to carry it in. (I've used a case and holster with all my phones for 4 yrs.) Never had any damage from drops and I have less of a chance of dropping my phone when either taking out/putting it back in the holster. I like the fact that I can just whip my S4 in/out at anytime and not having to place it down on a table, when I sit down. I never have to worry about leaving my phone behind or it dropping out of my pocket.

A good case will add some bulk to the phone, since it has to have a nice raised lip around the screen edge and some sort of shock protection padding to distribute the shock energy.

I'm not saying this combo is for everybody, but it just funny how some would rather take the chance of getting a cracked screen, without some sort of protective case on their phone. Then when the screen gets cracked, pay almost as much as the phone to fix it, when a good case is around $30 to $50 dollars w/o the inconvenience of not having your phone while its being repaired.

I'm just saying.

My first smartphone was an iPhone 3 and I'm now on my 5th. In all that time I have never dropped any of them or cracked the screen. If I had put them all in Otterboxes I would be out $250 and would have had a fat munter of a phone all that time.

It reminds me of those bizarre vinyl bra things I have seen on a lot of cars in the US to protect against stone chips. I cannot understand the logic of avoiding the risk of something possibly looking horrible in future by guaranteeing that it looks horrible all the time.

Strange you refer to the case as ugly. It looks just like the S3 phone, it's larger but that is because it contains back up batteries. It's also give you more to hold on to. But it's main purpose is protection.

The Mophie Juice Pack Case is just a little bit fater because it holds a backup rechargeable battery. so along with protection I have a lot of battery when needed. I agree the Otterboxes would be over kill for my needs.

I think you need to visit an optician. My son has an S3 and, fortunately, it looks nothing like this.

Firstly you are ignoring the back, which doesn't bear the remotest resemblance to the back of the S3 and secondly, no, it still doesn't look the same.

It's not my business to tell anyone else what they should do with their phone but pretty much all cases are ugly and this one is certainly no exception to that rule.

I'm guessing you are English by the fact that you are on Virgin so you will probably be familiar with the expression "I don't fancy yours much", which seems particularly apposite in this instance.

That's great. A good case is still cheaper then getting a replacement phone or using the insurance to cover damage. (You can get a good case of like $10). I keep my phone for 2 years +, so the added protection amounts to really nothing for me.

I agree i always buy the phone that has been around a year and it's price has dropped. The case has a good backup battery, so it's a win win deal. I had a older iPhone and never dropped or had any problems with it. By switching phones and providers, I am saving a lot of Monthly costs and have a better phone with the Galaxy S3.

That's very smart and saves a lot of money. I was blessed to be able to get my 32GB S4 for only $150. (Traded in my old Motorola Backflip for $100 towards the S4). I probably still would have paid the $250, original price for the S4, but would have wondered if I could have waited a few months for a price drop.

On Sept. 13th my Sprint contract will be up and I can quit Sprint. I already have the new phone and new system provider, I just had to wait to end my contract with Sprint. Then I can take my old iPhone to Best Buy and turn it in for $100 US. I had to keep it because I needed it to speak with Sprint, I had to keep it on system till the exact end of my contract. Even after over 20 years with them they would not cut be any slack. Nice bunch right. Anyway I will be in good shape as Best Buy has always treated me good.
