Default What is the strongest & best S4 case?

Hello

I just bought a s4 and I want to give it maximum protection!

I hear the glass is actually very fragile even though its marketed as "gorilla glass".

I bought a Spigen case, but I am not sure if this is the strongest. I don't care if it adds a little bulk (don't want too much ideally), but any advice on the best would be great.

I dropped my last Samsung S2 and the glass shattered, I dont want to make the same mistake again!

I'll give my vote for Otter Box. I'm pleased with it so far. Though I think the belt holster could be a little bit better, all in all it's ok.

I've got the Spigen Slim Armor and it's great. Doesn't add all that much bulk either.

I believe as others have said that the otterbox is great, I however have a bog standard plastic backed, rubber rim case and it's protected it so far with several drops from variable heights into a variety of surfaces....all in all its been just as solid as my s2 had been.....having said that I've heard reports of them breaking in people's pockets! Really it can come down to luck!

Gorilla Glass is meant to be scratch resistant. It still shatters like any other glass. Part of the problem with modern smartphones is the sheer size of the screen - it's much easier to smash a big piece of glass than a small one.

I have always hated cases so I don't use one (although, I'll admit that I am starting to get a little nervous reading all the tales of misadventure here) but I have read good things about the Otterbox cases in so many reviews and on so many forums that they must at least be worth considering.

I saw this Drop Test: Samsung Galaxy S4 with OtterBox Defender Case - YouTube random video on YouTube of a guy dropping an S4 in an Otterbox Defender case and it certainly seemed to do the trick.

Those of you recommending the Otterbox clearly didn't read the OP's specifications. Maximum protection is undeniable with the Seidio Obex case. Nothing comes close so why only recommend the case that YOU have?

Most of the reviews I have seen seem to pick the Otterbox Armor over the Seidio Obex so I'd say it is deniable, since quite a few people seem to do just that.

I haven't tried either but they both look very capable of protecting a phone against any reasonable drop or spill.

Which Spigen case did you get? I love my Spigen Slim Armor, although i wish the front rim around the glass came up a little higher to provide more protection should it land face down. I love the feel of it in my hand and the 2 layer protection, while being very thin still.

I also have the DualTek by Puregear (in black) PureGear - DualTek Extreme Shock Case for Samsung Galaxy S4 . This is one of the best cases for overall protection, although i use it less often since it adds a little more thickness and width to my phone making it more difficult to use with one hand.

Please provide a retail supplier for the Otterbox Armor for the S4, otherwise this is moot. The Otterbox website only has this case for iPhails and the SIII.

Again, this case provides no water/dust proofing.

Outterbox Commuter case is what I have, without the bulk of the Outterbox Defender case.

I have the OBEX and very happy with it. Except speaker phone is unusable due to feedback to the caller. I am a farmer, my phone is subjected to dust, dirt, grease, water and general abuse. This case comes through with flying colors. It adds some size but not a lot of bulk, not my experience with defender cases, but have not tried their case for this phone. Seido's holster for this phone does a great job of keeping the phone in place while still keeping easy access.

I also bought the Slim Armor, it is beautiful. Looks very nice., but is it up to the job? I share your concerns... there is about 1mm of edging, this isn't enough for the screen

Considering The Seido Obex. It looks like a great cover, a bit bulky, but if it protects my S4 (the ultimate goal), then I am happy. It is pricey though! 50! The otterbox defender is 20.. hmm.. Also considering the case mate tough extreme!

@Colchicine Thanks for the tip!! Much appreciated

I've always used OTTER BOX for all my devices. If you want a sturdy and not bulky one.. if i may suggest get the Otter box Commuter. But if you want a heavy duty case, I think other OP's have said a lot of good reliable cases for your phone.

Lifeproof has a case coming out in October finally for the S4. I currently have an Otterbox Defender, but would like some water proofing. I dropped my phone the other day in some wet grass and water got underneath the screen protector. So, I will be looking into getting either the Seidio Obex or the Lifeproof. There is a really good review of the Seidio case for the S4 here.

[REVIEW][+PICS!] Seidio OBEX Case/Holster Combo

An additional note about my Defender case. I take the outer rubber protection off when charging. I've noticed that the rubber tab that closes off the charging port presses down on the connected cord and I can foresee this possibly causing a loose charging connection over time.

Just purchased the Trident Kraken AMS case. Similar to defender, but i got this for $19.99 shipped on amazon. Have to wait to see, but being military stress test approved for rain, drop and dust can't be a bad thing, can it?

Interesting design. Not sure I like the corners, but color choices and price is nice. Have you received it yet? How much size and bulk does it add? How do you like the holster and are you able to use speaker phone?

So received the case a few days ago (Trident Kraken). Awesome case for durability. Probably won't use it every day, as it does add quite a bit of bulk to the phone, but will definitely use it when i'm out and about (ie in my saddlebags on my motorcycle).
