Default why is half my ram always in use

Got the active applications widget, whenever I go on it, I'll end them all.
then go on the ram tab, ram is still over half used, so I clear memory. It always tells me around 20/30 applications closed. What?! I have never opened that many applications ever. Then I can stay on the same page and clear memory again. And it'll just continually tell me 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 etc applications closed.

What are these applications that keep opening themselves and why will the ram never be less than half used?

And what are the applications that appear wheb you hold down menu button, recent applications that aren't currently open?

Android naturally manages memory well by itself. It functions faster when the RAM is full, because it caches apps you use often. Some apps will reopen themselves after you close them because android tells them to re-open, so that your phone feels faster. it is rather intelligent in this way, and you don't really need to manually control what apps are open and not.

Couldn't agree more with GuitarG20.

RAM: What it is, how it's used, and why you shouldn't care

There's a saying about Android RAM... "Unused RAM is wasted RAM!"

I'd worry more about why more ram isn't being used. You've got 2GB of ram, use it!

Unununium, just out of curiosity, why do you think programs are in ram?

Unununium Android is more efficient and dynamic in the usage of ram and the more it is used the faster and better it will work. It is a different approach to memory management than how it is done on a PC or Mac. Constantly clearing memory and killing apps is not needed and will actually slow down your phone and reduce battery life. Allow Android to manage it and just enjoy using an awesome phone.
