Sad Phone Turns Off

This has only happened twice (so far) but it's still inconvenient. My phone has turned off at some point during the night (no, the battery didn't die). When I wake up the LED light is blinking green. It happened once when I'd plugged it in to charge, and again last night when it wasn't charging. Has anyone had this issue before? Is there a fix?

I am not really sure what really happened. So you took your phone off your nightstand and the led was shining green because it looks like the battery is full of charge but the phone has shut down. Is that what occured?

Than you saw a similar thing but this time your phone was not plugged into the outlet and yet again it was off and you had to boot it back up?

Pretty much, but blinking green like i had a facebook chat notification, not solid green.

guessing it's not a common problem, and may be something with the phone itself. I guess I'll take it back and see what the carrier has to say about it

I have noticed something that maybe similar sometimes my phone hangs like coming our of sleep it takes a good 15 seconds but not to the point where it soft bricks or just gets into a state where I have to make it restart.

Are you on stock rom? Are you rooted? If you do not know what that is just say the phone is in the same state as when I bought it.

Sometimes if the battery or CPU gets too hot the phone will shut itself down to protect itself. So that's two things you could look at (an app that shows you and keeps a log of battery temperature) and an app that watches to see what programs may be using too much CPU.

I'm not sure what the names are of any apps for watching battery temps (I know someone will know and can recommend a few), but I can recommend Watch Dog Lite.

Watch Dog Lite will sit quietly in the background and watch for apps that use too many system resources. It'll give you a pop-up with the option to force close the app. If that same app repeatedly makes Watch Dog go off, you're supposed to contact that app developer and let them know their app is causing some issues.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zomut.watchdoglite

Another option to consider before taking the phone back is a factory reset. It very well may be a corrupt Android system file using too much CPU causing the phone to overheat. If you choose this method, be sure not to install any 3rd party apps for awhile until you've given the phone a few days to see if the random shut offs stop. You need to eliminate the chance of a 3rd party app causing the problem.

Only a few times, but my phone had shut down and rebooted while storing my apps & pics on the SD card. I have a faulty Sandisk 64GB card. Ever since I took the apps off the card, I haven't had a problem. The card is still inserted.
Just saying... maybe the SD card could be the culprit.

I also have ahd this issue. Randomly shuts down, but mine wont reboot unless I remove the battery or plug it in. No green light, just dead in the water.
I am using a zerolemon battery. I wonder if that could have anything to do with it. Gsam battery monitor doesn't show any signs of temp rising (hopefully that means no overuse of system resources either).
This happened before updating to MJ7 when I was on ME7, and I have always been rooted running stock.
