Upgrade from what to what using what? What is step 3?

When I upgraded from 1.5 to 2.1 using New PC Studio it failed on the automatic reboot. After a while with nothing happening I took out the battery and then it booted nicely into a brand new 2.1.

Don't know if this is what you're talking about though, or if will work for others.

Yeah using pc studio. I get to step three 'installing the update' but it stays at 0%. Removed the battery and tried again but the same happened.

Just retried, the update downloaded and verified but stopped on installing again. I got the emergency recovery, followed all the instructions but still didnt update. Hm abit stuck as what to do next?

(I am guessing i am updating from 1.5 to 2.1, its the only update avilable isnt it via pc studio?)

Sorry for the double post guys but ive just about had enough of this update lol...
Just had samsung and t-mobile on the phone and their support is an absolute waste of time.
For the last 10 attempts now it gets to step 3, disconnects and now tells me the 'samsung usb composite device failed to install'

One problem after another!

Hi Jinglewaffle,

I had exactly the same problems when I was updating my spica. I think that at step 3 PC Studio is downloading some drivers which need the computer to be restarted but the stupid Studio doesn't say so. In my case I had to restart the computer two or three times (and at the same time remove and put in again the battery of the phone in order to get it started), but finally it worked

As long as the message was 0% updated there was no danger for the phone (at least in my case) - if it got stuck all I had to do was remove the battery and start over again. And once the update began, it went till the end. So with a bit more patience and restart of the computer you should get it.

Hi guys,
thanks for all your input. I finally solved it by just removing the battery but leaving the cable in, rebooted the phone and the update completed.

Sorry for the bump, but I also have this problem, and removing the battery while leaving the cable in does nothing.

Did you get the error that says the update failed and you had to "emergency backup" ? When exactly during the process did you remove the phone ? Any specific way your rebooted etc. etc. ?

EDIT : I did manage to do something. After getting that error, I removed the battery, the phone somehow entered download mode, but I exited NPS and the phone restarted again, showing a phone and a PC with a few dots between them and an exclamation mark. Does that mean if NPS would've been left turned it would've done the update ?

It's still running on the old OS.

You can install a later firmware as installed by NPS, and get your phone back on the air, by following my root guide.

See my post above.
