Default Notifications Annoyance (star icon)

I cant figure out out to turn off notifications that pop up on my sgt. I am fine with my words with friends, android market and email notifications, but this s a star icon that when you click on it, it opens a webpage. These are spam notifications. Do not know where it came from or how to get rid of them. Anyone else have this issue?

Take a good look at the apps that you have installed. This isn't normal.

Yes. I contacted Samsung to see about just turning off that notification. They said there is no way. I will have to turn off all notifications. Time to go through the 100s of apps I have downloaded.

Yes it's definitely an app that you downloaded as the Tab doesn't use a star (*) for notifications of any kind.

What you are seeing is AirPush or LeadBolt spam. It piggy-backs in on apps you download. Get "AirPush Detector" from the Market -- it finds both, and will tell you what apps to uninstall.

I have the same annoying Star in notification. It started coming after I installed games 'The Lost City' and 'Broken Sword'. Do you have any of these games or games from these providers? I'm almost certain I didn't install or purchase anything else before this star showed up.

Sadly, there are many apps that use these ads. As stated above Airpush Detector will identify which apps have it. Then you can decide which ones you can live without.

Sooo... I got a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I noticed I will occasionally receive these random 'star' notifications for completely irrelevant things (auto car sales? vacation packages? are you kidding...)

I downloadede AitPush Detector and the only app the came back was the official Groupon app.

Does this mean the Groupon app is sending me these unlabeled, unwanted messages to my phone? I like the actual APP but it seems like I will have to uninstall just to avoid the annoyance?

You might use some other AirPush detectors.
Or maybe you have an AirPush addon which is yet unknown for the detectors.

Both you could resolve with this info ...

Hi, there is an app thatchecks your live apps and tells you which are causing spam.
I cannot recall the name of it, try a google search

I was having the same problem, receiving strange star or plus icons in the notification bar that opened in the Web browser.

Following this post, I downloaded AirPush Detector and it quickly identified a live wallpaper which was causing this.

Uninstalled and everything back to normal.

Thanks for the tip!!
