Default charging samsung galaxy tablet P7500 via USB cable connected to PC

Hi,
When connecting the USB cable from PC to the samsung galaxy tablet P7500, the tablet does not seem to be charging but I can get the data transfer though.
Is there a setting on the tablet to make sure it chrges while connected to the PC throughthe USB cable?
Thanks

Search function or even Google is your friend. This has been discussed before several times, and the answer is simple - the Tab has a large battery and needs over 1,000mA to charge it up quickly. The power output on USB from your computer is rated at 500mA so it won't show as charging. However, it will trickle charge at a very slow rate so it will charge it eventually when not being used, but it won't register on the Galaxy Tab as charging. This applies to most tablet devices.

That's not entirely the true. Yes, USB is limited in supply current, and yes, the Tab requires much more than USB can supply (when the Tab is in operation).

However, a stock Tab cannot charge via USB/standard cable at all (hence the red circle/line on the Tab when plugged into a PC).

You either need to by a special cable (I've never tried this, but there is a thread identifying the cable) or root and install a ROM which has USB charging enabled (then the stock cable will work).

Actually it most certainly IS the truth.

While the Tab will not show in its notifications area that it's charging, it actually will charge at a VERY slow rate, even if it's on, and the charge indicator will show a "not charging" red circle. But it actually is charging the Tab, but at a very slow rate, much slower than normal.

As you said, you need a special USB cable to charge properly at the full rate, one with a switch that allows swapping of the pin-outs in the USB cable assignment is a bonus. However, the USB specifications are still relevant, and the Tab allows up to 500mA current to charge the tablet battery, even though that is below the Samsung specification, which is why the Tab shows "not charging" even though it actually is charging at a low rate.

Trust me...I have the Tab, it is NOT rooted, I've charged it on USB, and although it's horribly slow, it does charge the battery up to 100%. Turning the Tab off helps a bit too, but to honest, I usually use the original high current AC charger. Why? Because I have things to do.

I don't trust you. I trust my own experience, and what the experts at XDA have to say. When the Tab is turned on ... it does not charge through the supplied USB cable. Prior to root and custom ROM/kernel, I've left my idle, screen off, wifi off, Tab connected to my PC and it died after a few hours. It did not charge at all.

I don't care if you believe me or not. The facts speak for themselves.

Mine charges at a very slow rate, but it does charge. I have WiFi off too since I have 3G active all the time. Perhaps that's the difference, mine is the 3G GT-P7500 model and yours is the WiFi model? It's completely stock, not rooted either, using the supplied stock USB cable.

I've experienced this as well. It even states that it's discharging in the battery status, but if you let it sit, it does actually charge really slowly.

That said, it doesn't work on certain USB ports, or my work craptop at all.

I tend to plug it in to the A/C adaptor for a nice fast charge anyway.

Is it possible to use the tab (Galaxy 10.1) with the charging adapter plugged into an outlet?
I get good battery life. When I'm not using it, I always turn it off, and connect the AC adapter to keep it charged.
But I was wondering if I can use it while charging with the AC adapter?

Absolutely. I do this all the time. (My Tab is always on and if the battery charge drops during the course of the day, I just plug it in and keep going.)
