Default using galaxy tab as smart phone?

Hi, i'm currently using Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini pro and it's really bugging me as it has low battery life. I'm thinking of buying Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 next month. so my question is, can i use it like a phone? send/receive texts and call/recieve call without using any application, and from rating 1-10, what is the battery life for this tab? Thanks

Battery life is good, the info is already out there. There is no built in phone or text app. A simple down load of google voice would fix that. It is really big for a phone. I would recommend the galaxy note instead.

Welcome to Android Forums!

As I've said time and time again, your android device is a mini computer, so battery life is based on how you use your device. If you're texting, surfing the web, taking photos, using location based apps, what is a realistic time you expect the battery to last?

Where are you located? The Samsung Galaxy Tab models in North America do not have phone capabilities.

I'm going to suggest you review information in our Galaxy Tab 10.1 Forum, there is a lot of good information there!

As stated above the NA models do not have phone capabilities but (some of) the European versions do.

Tab 10.1 cannot make or receive phonecalls. Tab 7, 7.7 and 8.9 can. The new Tab 2 10.1 will have that capability.

But it is perfectly capable of performing as such with a Google Voice account (not the app) and using the GrooVe IP app. It's 100% VoIP. I use it all the time. I'm not sure if there are restrictions for use in Brunei, or hardware differences in your market though.

It would be nice If we can have the capability to make calls. I have a phone plan incluying call minutes, SMS's and MMS's. I can only use the two last ones with the default app located on the phone, but I'm wasting my minutes.

Sometimes not having this phone capability is pain in the butt, every time I would reload my 3g subscription. In vietnam, you can buy a card to reload your 3g, every time I do it, I need to remove the sim, put it on the phone and enter the pin # and submit it to activate the new load.

I have a Galaxy 10.1 Tab (ics) + Galaxy S2 phone.

I've recently been using 'Tablet Talk' to text and, make phone calls from my Tab.

1/ Simply download Tablet Talk to both Tab and phone.
2/ Connect both via Bluetooth or Wifi

And away you go..

The Galaxy S2 can also acts as a mobile wifi 'Hot Spot' for your Tab.

Hope this helps.

Muttaa :-)

Talkatone is another app that let's you use your tab like a phone. It's similar to GrooveIP. You just need a data connection and a Google Talk number. However, I don't think calls will be free outside the USA and Canada.
