Default Mine went in for repair

I noticed that the battery was taking FOREVER to charge. Then the unit just died, refusing to power up or charge (2 different chargers and cords). I did a very frustrating dance between Tmobile and Samsung and finally wound up sending my not quite 2 month old tablet to Samsung.

To their credit, Samsung was very communicative about status. The unit was returned in full working order in a week or so. Their only comment was `software upgrade'. I'm a reasonably intelligent fellow but I don't understand how one could apply a software upgrade to a device that refuses to *boot*.

Oh yeah, they also WIPED the entire device.
Yes, backup is the responsibility of the owner (me) but at no time was I advised they were going to wipe it. And a `software upgrade' shouldn't wipe a device.

So I'm fairly disappointed with Tmobile and Samsung.

I detailed the experience below:

It would be tough to back up your device if it won't boot. Does anyone have any good backup routines?

The first thing most companies do when something is send for repair is wipe it and restore to factory settings or reinstall the OS. This is common knowledge. There are several good backup apps in the Play Store, or you can simply use Dropbox or copy your important data to a SD card regularly. I do weekly backups to Dropbox.

I use an excellent app called FolderSync. It backs up to lots of different places.

Titanium Backup gets good reviews, but I think you need to have rooted your Tab to use it.

I don't know what kind of files you had, but any kind of word doc for me is stored with Google docs. With music, I've Been buying amazon mp3s so its in the cloud. The apps we buy are saved in the cloud too I think. I don't think I'd lose anything critical if I lost my tab.... except for pics and save game data.

Are you sure that Amazon MP3s are stored in the cloud? Amazon told me a while ago that they can only be downloaded once.

Edit:
According to Amazon's help:
Quote:
Can I download another copy of my MP3 files after the initial purchase?

Your Amazon MP3 purchases can only be downloaded once. After you have successfully downloaded the file to your computer at the time of purchase, we recommend that you create a backup copy.
We are currently unable to replace any purchased files that you delete or lose due to a system or disk error. If you encounter a problem with an MP3 file immediately after purchase, please click the Contact Us button in the right-hand column of this page so we can determine how to help you.
