Is there a way to back up the Tab 10.1 in a manner similar to the way you can back up the iPad to iCloud? Can you use Google Drive?

Yes you can. You can set it up under Settings > Back up and reset

The backup is done automatically to Google servers, no need to set anything up on your end except to enable the Backup feature. Sync the tablet and you're done. Your Gmail account stores the info, and any time you reset the tablet, you simply setup your Gmail account and enable Backup, and the tablet will sync your info.

So all my apps, music files, videos and other files etc will all be backed up to Google's servers and I can restore them when evenever I carry out backup and restore!

Great but why doesn't Google avertise this service?
