Default Android File Transfer problem

I've downloaded Android File Transfer in an attempt to mount/connect my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to my Mac however whenever I keep getting the error message below!

Could not connect to device

Try reconnecting or restarting your device.

Does anyone know what going wrong here?

Thanks

Wish I could help with the app but I use AirDroid.
Airdroid is web based, secure and works for any of my android devices.
It is flawless fast and free.
Very simple to use and works wireless. I highly recomend it as you can see every file, download upload and even send text

I was also never able to get Android File Transfer to work with my wife's Mac, even though my Windows computer can copy files to it just fine. Eventually I put the file I needed to transfer onto Google Drive and did it that way - it's slow but it gets the job done.

Thanks AmHub, I'll try AirDroid next time.

I thought Android File Transfer was a Mac only piece of software. Not sure then how a Windows PC could copy files to it?

What I meant to say was that my Windows PC can copy files to and from my Android Tablet just fine - i.e. nothing wrong with the Tablet or cable.
