I would be inclined to think that it is either a faulty battery or charger that is at fault here.
Even with everything turned on ie Full brightness, notifications, WiFi, Bluetooth and the most power hungry apps, the tablet should still manage a hell of a lot more time than that.
Have you tried charging the tablet up using just the supplied cable and connecting to a PC.
You might want to do a factory reset from the system setting options to see if it cures the ill.
