Default Can't connect to Google today. Need help

After tablet went dead yesterday, finally got it charged and rebooted. Problems:
1. Date shows Jan 1 2000. Won't update
2. Gmail won't update
3. Google calendar won't update.
4. Playstore shows "No Connection, retry"
I checked my account settings--all good. I can connect to internet OK. Sync is on but nothing connected to google works at all.
I was going to delete the google account on the device and re-add the account but can't see where to do it. Tablet is kinda crippled right now.
Looks like it's all connected to google somehow. Playstore and everything works fine on my Nexus Phone. Just can't get this to work.
No way to do a battery pull.

Edit: I went in and manually set date and time in settings. Playstore, Google calendar & tasks, gmail all started back to syncing properly. Manually setting date and time is either a guarded secret I stumbled upon, or perhaps just a coincidence. Whichever--things are working for the moment.

You're correct, date and time must be set close to actual date and time or it won't connect to Google. Happens when you let the tablet die or sometimes just randomly on reboots.

Thanks! Good to know it wasn't just accidental.
Now if I could just figure out why the tablet died in the first place.

For the 6 months I owned that tablet, that was always a mystery to me. I would use it for a couple of days and have 50-75% battery left and then a day later I would go to use it and it would be dead. Other times it would go for a couple of weeks in standby mode and run fine. Finally got rid of it and got my Nexus 7. I've been much happier with this tablet than I was with my GTab 7 Plus.

Yep. Think I'll be getting N7 as soon as the 32 GB one comes out.
Please, please, please--Santa, you listening?
