Default Galaxy tab 7.7 browsing experience

I'm an iPad2 user. I ordered the new iPad, but I really like the form factor and screen of the Samsung galaxy tab 7.7. I was almost going to purchase it at the Verizon store last week. The one thing that made me second guess it was the browser.

I noticed that as I panned and zoom around in web pages in the android browser, that the screen kept repainting in certain areas. It wasn't smooth like on my ipad2. The regular iPad just showed a checkerboard for areas of the screen when it was rendering.

I noticed this on some other android tablets too.

It seems
Ike the CPU on these devices should be plenty fast to render web pages. So is it just that the android browser doesn't cache very well? Or what is going on?

Will ICS be better? I really want to purchase this tablet, but I may end up just sticking with apple. I'm really anti-apple, but I use my ipad2 for a lot of web browsing.

I've been using my friend's Ipad2 for a week now and it gives me a better experience, the lack of playing embedded flash vids is not bothersome at all as you can just use the dedicated youtube app then go back to browsing

I don't bother with the stock browser, I use DolphinHD.

For the most part I find the web browsing to be excellent on the 7.7. There are times that the repainting you speak of occurs, but I don't find that much different than my IPad2 that shows a checkerboard. Either way you can't see what's being refreshed.

The bottom line for me is the form factor is sooo much better than my IPad 2 that I find it much more pleasurable. I took the 7.7 on a business trip last week and it was just great using it with the form factor and light weight. I easily slipped it into an outside compartment on my carrry on luggage. That's something I could never do with my IPad2.

Add to that the fantastic screen and ability to play almost any kind of video and not encounter the frequent inability to play web videos I often get with the Ipad2, and for me it's a real winner.

I don't get the checkerboard on my ipad2. I got it on an older iPad. The thing is, it doesn't seem to be loading the page over the network. It just seems like a CPU or browser rendering thing.

Mogulman, I don't think so. It could be related to a weak LTE signal (or whatever service you're using) in your area. Whether I'm on LTE or WiFi, I have very very few instances of difficulty in loading pages. It's very fast and the pages completely load and scroll smoothly.

The Tab actually has more horsepower than the Ipad2.

I see very little difference between the 7.7 and my IPad2...except the 7.7 has a nicer screen and the device's form factor is much better IMO.

The browsing with the stock browser is surprisingly bad (compared to other Samsung devices like Galaxy S2). However Dolphin HD browser works very well - smooth scrolling and such.Dolphin develment team also made great job in improving GUI. The browser has some nice features even compared to ICS browser.

this thing is just cool. using opera here. along with hacker's keyboard. primarily use in portrait mode, as the keys are to wide apart for thumb typing, but too close together for regular typing. saw someone using an ergonomically split soft keyboard... anybody know its name?

I found the maxthon browser to be the only one with a "night mode", this way the power consumption is even less than normal. Give it a try
