Default USB / Third party charger

I have looked around, done a search, so sorry if this has already been asked.

Can the galaxy w be charged via the USB and a third party charger (e.g. iPad charger)?

I have tried and it doesn't seem to charge. No indication, and if left on all night battery level drops.

The issue isn't the capacity of the wall charger. The wall chargers are correct voltage and amperage.

The phone charges from the Samsung wall charger no problems. But will not charge with other chargers.

I know some of the other Samsung products (e.g. galaxy tab) are built to only charge from the supplied charger/cable (or speciality third party cables). Generic cables often may not work. Is the galaxy w the same?

I have purchased quite a cheap USB charger for the Iphone (I have no iphone) : -)

you will not see that it is charging, but it makes it, it takes just a little long, so I charge at night.
