Samsung Galaxy S Duos staying in Edge connection

Hi, I couldnt find a forum for Samsung Galaxy S Duos so I am posting this question here. I bought the phone a few days ago and it initially logged on to the 3G connection. After a couple of days it switched to Edge connection and stayed there. My other android phone, a HTC wildfire shows the 3G connectivity symbol. There is a strong 3G signal in my area so I cant understand why my phone stays in Edge. Is there any setting to enable switching from 2g to 3g?
