The best antivirus is ...none. Android has no viruses just some spyware but if you take care what you install you need no protection at all. It only takes valuable space in your small memory. In several years using Android i found never a treat. I used before Avast and also tried others but ended up removing them.

I AGREE, on my SGY don't have any AV installed as it will just an additional bloatware if you're aware on what u've installed/doing but if you still want I agree with Avast.

Avast also good, but it detected Google's "Android Market Security Tool" as a malware. So its false alarm. But according to the AV-test org following apps has higher detection rate.

According to that report i created this post:- Top 10 Antivirus Security Apps For Android Phone And Tablets [ Best, Free, Paid Review]

AV-test ratings (alphabetic order).

Download that report as a PDF in here (direct link).

Yes your simple logic correct, but there are linux based malware. Also some malware can run both windows and Linux computers. However android doesn't have that much of powerful malware, but there are few. If you are only download android market top rated apps that have huge user and never go for other apps download sites and never install newly release apps, that doesn't have sufficient user and ratings you shouldn't worry about malware.
