Default Connecting mobile to pc

Hi everyone!
I have a samsung galaxy y and I want to save some photos from mobile to pc. I installed samsung kies,but my phone isnt recognized by pc . When I connect the usb cable, in notifications area I cant see something new.
My phone has android 2.3.6.
What can I do?

check setting, go to setting > enable unknown sources then to same module developer > enable USB debugging...then try to connect.!!

I dont see a notification telling that USB connected....

y is it that still my galaxy y
is not recognized eventhough i follow this step?

Pull down the top bar where you see bluetooth,GPS etc., It will show "connect device to computer". Click on it.

i already pull it down still no message show "connect to my pc",,is there any app to install in my celfon?

Can you try another cable?
Does it start charging when you connect it? If not, then something is wrong with the cable or the USB port.
