unfortunately until someone leaks the original software image or Samsung releases it, there is no way to revert. What issues are you having?

Me too. Guess that wasnt the best idea. Going to call the Verizon rep to see what can be done.

This update must of just came out, because I too have did this ignorant thing and my market place doesn't work and my 3g signal is real weak. I believe that this update is for US Cingular and not Verizon. So when someone figures out how to revert back please let us know. If I figure something out I will post it.

Default Do NOT install the Froyo 2.2 update from Samsung on your Verizon GEM

I tried going through Verizon's support, and then Samsung's support. Neither place was able to figure out why everything else was working properly but the Market wouldn't.

I then talked to the sales rep I bought the phone from. He had me return it to the Verizon store, where I was given a replacement phone with the assurance that the 2.2.2 update on the Samsung site would work. In fact, the in-store rep assured me confidently that he had already used it to update several phones.

With that assurance, plus the promise that I could return it if it gave me any trouble, I tried updating the second Gem, which of course, did not work any better than the first one.

I returned that one also. This time, a different sales rep waited on me and advised me not to try to update the Gem to Android to 2.2.2. I complained that I was told the phone had 2.2 on it when it was sold to me, and that I was extremely dissatisfied with the misleading information. After a few minutes of conversation, I ended up getting an LG Vortex (with 2.2) for $50 with a $50 rebate.

Bottom line - at this time, the Samsung Gem cannot be updated to Android 2.2 and has not as yet been rooted successfully. If you are within your 14 day grace period and not happy, return it for something more up-to-date.

I was offered that option, but (1) why should I have to have a brand new phone repaired over a software issue, (2) I have to have a phone, so a 2 week period was out of the question (3) even if they send it back working, it will still be 2.1 most likely. So I would be right back where I was. and (4) the salesrep mis-represented the phone to me. I wanted 2.2

Even if you get it back with 2.2 and everything working right, that's not going to help everyone else. Can you imagine the inundation of phone repairs Samsung would get if everyone used that as a way to upgrade to 2.2 ? LOL

Hope it works out for you.

You have to take it to store and they will send you a new one..the update seems to be for US cellular and will not work with Verizon phones...they replace it for free under the warranty

Bottom line...Do NOT update if you use Verizon. They will provide updates for you

I'm having the same issue on my Samsung Gem for Verizon also. I upgraded it to 2.2.2 using a program called sw upgrade that I found on the net. Everything seems to work and run smooth except it won't send picture messages and the market doesn't work. Any Ideas?

Yes... you're in the same boat as the rest of us. There is no fix at this time. No one has done any dev work on it, so there isn't any sort of firmware file available to fix them, as far as I've been able to tell.

forgive me for bringing back a corpse thread. this is my first post btw.

i too updated my gem to 2.2.2 and have the same issues as everyone else but my phone is us cellular not verizon. i contacted samsung and USC with no luck.

i have no plans to use this as a phone but i would like it as a gadget. i managed to get amazon app store going, but it slow as molasses. the keyboard lags and everything is slow. i put go launcher on it and it has helped a little but not much. the only thing working semi correct is wi-fi. i grew a beard waiting on it though.

1.. is there another rom from a similar phone that might work?
2.. did they ever release the previous version?
3..is there any hope for salvaging this and making it usable again?
