While you're there, you should probably install the 4.1 recovery. Then you can do the rest at home if you want.

The easiest way to do it is:

- Download the 4.1 recovery package from hdblog.it
- Download galaxo from hdblog.it
- Plug the phone into the PC, and in the notifications tab click USB and mount
- You should now be able to open one of the storage devices that appears in my computer. Copy the update.zip and the rectools.tar.gz (from the recovery zip) into that drive (its your internal sd card)

Now you need to flash the latest recovery. I've uploaded the tools directory of the sdk to make it easier. The latest recovery.img is in there too.

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

- Extract the file. Find the one driver that didnt install, and point it to the USB Drivers directory in that zip
- Open a cmd prompt and cd into the tools directory.
- Put your phone into fastboot (power down, then press Call button + Power button). Windows might ask for a driver. Point it to the usb drivers directory or here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AE1SEO0G

- Type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

It will flash the recovery partition to your phone

Now pull the battery and boot into recovery:

Volume down + call + power

Take a nandroid backup - in case u ever want to restore

- Backup g.apps (if it takes less than a second, you'll need to reboot and do it again, its a bug), This should take 4 or 5 seconds.
- Wipe device
- Apply update.zip from sdcard
- Restore G.apps
- Reboot and wait about 5 mins for it to boot (slow first boot while it installs)

All done!

This is the easiest way to do it, and avoids all the driver problems people have. Follow each step one by one and you'll be fine.

ok.. i downloaded the two links you provided.. im on hdblog... i think im on the right pages; samsung galaxy roms: galaxo & galaxhero v1 final version, andupdate 14/10 - v4.1 root/recovery image... but how on earth do i find the files to download? also which version where you recommending galaxo or galxhero? i think id like to try them both..but which do you recommend? and one more thing... on the hdblog.it homepage..that little box which comes aross the top with some adds or updates whatever it is shows a link to a video of the galaxhero in english... anyways i watched the video and i noticed something..in the screen that he slides to the left of the homescreen there he has a facebook widget.. is that exclusive to galaxhero? or can it be had on galaxo? and can you have that widget on the standard fw that i just updated to? thanks

Yeah you're on the right pages. You need to register, and then there's a text file right at the bottom of each post. In there is the link.

I'm not sure about the facebook widget, but i don't have it in galaxohero. It must be some add on app. I would recommend you use GalaxoHero. You can easily change around once you have the recovery image on your phone.

You need to copy rectools.tar.gz from the V4.1 recovery image zip file AND the update.zip from te galaxoHero zip file - onto the internal SD card by mounting it as i explained above.

You don't need to use recovery.img, its already in the megaupload sdk tools i uploaded.

The .md5 files are just to checksum the main files - ignore them.

I think your PC must be hiding extensions. You want the rectools.tar file.
Just copy it as is, and don't extract it

Now you need to flash the latest recovery. I've uploaded the tools directory of the sdk to make it easier. The latest recovery.img is in there too.

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

^^^ Click that link, download the file and extract it on your PC. You'll get 2 directories, Tools and USB Driver

- Extract the file. Find the one driver that didnt install, and point it to the USB Drivers directory in that zip
^^^ In Device manager there will be one driver that didnt install properly (Remember form when u enabled usb debugging? There was one?) Go to properties, update driver, and point it to the USB Driver directory above

- Open a cmd prompt and cd into the tools directory.
^^^ If you don't know what a command prompt is you might just want to stop now - now offense :P -
Start -> run -> type cmd (or command if its an old os)
or in vista start -> type cmd in the search box

cd to the directory 'tools' from my zip above.

- Put your phone into fastboot (power down, then press Call button + Power button)
Windows might ask for a driver. Point it to the usb drivers directory or here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AE1SEO0G

^^ again download this file and extract it. Once in fastboot windows might ask for a driver. Point it to the directory you extracted from the above file.

- Type fastboot recovery recovery.img
^^^ Type this in the cmd window once in the tools directory

It will flash the recovery partition to your phone

Now pull the battery and boot into recovery:

Volume down + call + power
^^ You'll see a green recovery screen.

Take a nandroid backup - in case u ever want to restore
^^ its an option on the menu, use the up/down keys and OK to select it

- Backup g.apps (if it takes less than a second, you'll need to reboot and do it again, its a bug), This should take 4 or 5 seconds.
- Wipe device
- Apply update.zip from sdcard
- Restore G.apps
- Reboot and wait about 5 mins for it to boot (slow first boot while it installs)
^^ All of these are options on the menu

All done!

This is the easiest way to do it, and avoids all the driver problems people have. Follow each step one by one and you'll be fine.

Sorry it was

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

It will say <waiting for device>

Make sure you then boot into fastboot on your phone, and install the driver if you need to. It will exit fastboot after 15 seconds so you need to be quick!

EDIT: I edited the original post to corect it. So no you didnt read it wrong the first time, it was my fault

Try that command, if it sits there waiting at <waiting for device> even tho the phone is in fastboot. you need to check device manager for any unknown devices.

If it works it should say xxxs bytes written on the screen of the phone. Move onto the next step.

On old firmware it stays there. On new firmware it reboots after 15 seconds.

Forget everything previously please just do this:

- run fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- It will says something like <waiting for device>
- Boot into fastboot, the phone should say something like xxx bytes written and the command in the cmd window should say it flashed and exit.

Now remove the battery to exit fastboot, and reboot into recovery, and then do the g.apps backup, wipe, gapps restore and reboot.

You need to be in fast boot. Power off, then hold the call and power buttons. The screen needs to look like this:

Fastboot Mode and Recovery Mode on Samsung Galaxy | receptorBlog

If it doesnt your're not in the right mode.

You can leave the cable in and go into fastboot.

ok cool

with the green screen?

do a nadroid backup to save your current rom state.
Then do a wipe, then G.apps backup (make sure it takes more than 2 or 3 seconds). If not reboot into recovery and do the backup again.

Then apply sdcard:update
then restore g.apps
and finally reboot

It may take 5 or 10 mins to boot.

yeah its the factory reset options.

- nandroid backup, makes a backup of your current filesystem, and puts it on the internal SD card - which never gets wiped with a factory reset
- Wipe formats your system partition restoring your phone to factory (but leaves the internal sd alone)
- backup g.apps, backs up the the google apps to the internal sd card because they can't be included in the custom roms due to copyright issues
- update sdcard:update.zip, aplies the galaxo rom to your formated system
- restore g.apps, restores the google apps to the galaxo rom.

Not sure about arabic, but there was another thread on here somewhere. For O2 (uk?) prepay check here:

O2 pay as you go settings for G1 UK

You need to go to wireless, mobile settings, and apn, then menu button and new apn.

I couldn't restore the gApps for some reason...

I rebooted anyway, the system has been loading for about 20 mins now... is something wrong?

I'm having the same problem as hoho. I've followed all the steps as documented and reached the point of restoring G.Apps.

The first time I tried it it failed immediately and I realised that I'd forgotten to copy over the tar file as II5.tar. Doh! So I copied it over and tried again - still failed. Renamed the tar file to ii5.tar in case it's case sensitive and it failed again. Each time it said to look in /tmp/recovery.log but I've no idea how to find that.

So I thought I'd reboot (using the option in recovery mode), go back into recovery mode and try again. However it didn't go back into recovery mode and has now been stuck on the Android loading screen for about 45 mins.

Is it OK to pull the plug and reboot again or will that cause problems? Should I restore my Nandroid backup of IH6 and start all over again? Or what point do I need to return to and continue from to get this to work?

i think it would be a bad move to restore nandroid backup at this stage, i saw someone else on the hdblog forums having a problem and restoring nandroid at a mid installation stage caused more problems.
make a post on the hdblog.it thread regarding your issues as theres more than one it seems.
I cannot host the 4.1 recovery as its against Drakaz's rules
however if you want to flash the latest version of o2 UK csc (ii4) with odin i have the files on my web host.

Thanks for the speedy reply. I don't particularly want to restore the Nandroid backup.

The phone has been stuck on the android load screen for over an hour now so I'm thinking that the best thing is to pull the battery out and then start again from the point of flashing II5 with Odin.

I neglected to mention in my earlier post that after I did this the first time it booted into Android before I did the wipe and install of GalaxHero.

So before I go for it any better suggestions than:

Boot into download mode
Flash II5 with Odin
Boot into recovery mode
Factory reset
Check II5.tar (or should it be ii5.tar and update.zip are in /sdcard
Run update.zip
Restore G.Apps
Enable root (optional)
Reboot and (hopefully) enjoy

Just had a quick look on HDBlog.it and it seems someone else has done this so I'm going for it! Wish me luck...

I had the same problem the g.apps not restoring and no log file was present.

What I think resolved it was doing the factory reset/wipe, then apply update.zip, then nandroid backup... after that the g apps restored just fine.

...I did try a few different things though so it may not have been that.

edit: oh, and you don't need the enable root step as the GalaxHero ROM is already rooted.

bergerc, I managed to get it working. Running GalaxO now.

had to use adb to push update.zip and II5.tar onto the sdcard (while in recovery mode) instead of being lazy and transferring through usb mount in windows. Followed drakaz steps word for word on hdblog.it

I did as well. I had to repeat the process again, following drakaz's instructions. I used Windows Explorer to transfer the files rather than adb.

First impressions are that Galaxo is snappier than H6 and the battery life seems to be a bit better, but it's still early days.

Hey guys,

Just read through the forum and saw a lot of stuff for T-mobile in the US.
I've got the same problem, just got my HTC Magic and noticed that I didnt have the market.
I'm from Australia and I'm guessing I shouldn't be following those instructions?
I'm unsure whether this phone was purchased overseas or not because it was a present that was given to me. Is there something I can do about this?

Edit: Oh crappies, I didn't notice I posted in the Samsung sections, sorry! I'll make my own thread elsewhere...

Hey, I hope you can help me.

I just purchased the new i7500 and i want to put the GalaxHero rom but i got stuck on 1st step even

When i turn on the phone in fastboot mode and do a flash command it hangs on "<waiting for device>". Eventually after ~15 secs the phone restarts and goes into normal boot as intended. I have the ADB driver installed and according to windows working well. I read many topics concerning this issue but i am still stuck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You are in fastboot right? Like this?

Fastboot Mode and Recovery Mode on Samsung Galaxy | receptorBlog

Also did it ask for a driver when you entered fastboot? Keep device manager open on the side, and see if any unknown devices pop up there during the 15 seconds.

I can't be happier than to have the attention of the greatest contributor of the forum

Yes, i am in that mode, it's the exact same screen. It just stays as it is and on my computer when executing the command i just get a hanging <waiting for device>. The firmware on the phone is G8 ( :S ). I don't have any yellow question marks on device driver, i fixed that ADB driver using the link from HDBlog. I have unchecked mass storage, turned on USB debugging. I have copied the rectools to phone memory, on root dir.I have no clue what it might be :/

fastboot also needs the adb driver but sees it seperately as android 1.0
to check go into windows device manager and boot the device into fastboot. youll notice an exclamation mark. update that driver to the same adb driver that was used.
obviously youll need to be quick as you have 15 seconds to locate and install that driver
once installed reboot into fastboot again and run the command
