So i'm new to android and a lot of this is new to me (formerly a winmo flasher) Do we know if the pda part alone can be flashed without rooting?

Any news on a rom for the bell I7500L phones? I got a brick now lol since I did not do all my homework before changing roms.

BTW I hope that terminology is correct haha.

I've just downloaded I7500XXIK5-PDA-CL99814-REV5_ITV_ and it comes with the following files once extracted: amss, cache.img, kernel, recovery, system. From what i've already read it seems that amss may cause me issues. Using odin multiloader wouldn't I be able to flash only system for example? as well if someone can walk me through it I would be happy to back up my bell ROM for the gentleman that bricked his so he can restore it.

I guess you need someone with a 7500L to keep checking with NPS

That would be great gilbilly but from what I understand it is not as easy as that. I am not even sure how it is done. I will keep looking though and checking back to this thread. I am sure something with come up soon.

What's NPS?

gilbilly: You need to remove the cache.img so that it doesnt install the Italian customisations. You also !!MUST!! remove the amss, or you'll end up bricking your radio.

You could backup the partitions on your phone, but you cannot backup the AMSS. So it won't help tkb24

tkb24: NPS is New PC Studio. Its the software that comes with your phone (and you can download it from the samsung web site). It is what you're supposed to use to update your phone.

Updated get pushed to it when you're operator gives samsung the OK. As soon as you get ONE update from NPS you can fix your phone.

Because you have flashed your phone with a 7500 firmware, you cant check with NPS, since it will search for 7500 firmware and not 7500L firmware.

If you look in the forum, there is also a program called FUS downloader. This will query the server in the same way NPS does. You need to change the values to a valid firmware tho.

The best bet is probably if gilbilly installs new PC studio and tries to update on it. If it offers you an update i'll talk you through how to grab the fille after its downloaded. If there's no update available you'll just have to wait.

BTW use 'jzip' to remove the files from the tar. winzip, winrar etc will break the tar file and odin wont accept it.

jzip is free (google it)

Yes it can be done.

I've done it 01/05/2010 using odin and i7500XXIK5 rom.

Here's my post for those brazilians who want to try...

Galaxy i7500 com nova rom « Dicas do chmod

Ok so my roommate had the exact same phone as me which is untouched. I want to create a back of it so that I can always fall back on it (never backed mine up) I'm looking everywhere and everyone seems to have different steps for this. can anyone direct me to the best and simplest way to do this?

what kind of backup exactly do you mean? apparently, you cannot backup the whole firmware off the phone.

The only thing that comes to my mind is to factory reset his phone, install custom recovery, make a nandroid backup. But I'm not sure you can actually revert your phone to IK6 by restoring this backup on your phone.

Seems like best backup for now is keeping it untouched.

That's it... and I can't find some clue of why the lock screen does not work anymore after an outgoing call.
And no matter what firmware I'm using, it simply happens.

The only way to get the lock screen back is by killing the Dialer service (that is almost a reboot in the phone).

Please somebody help!

Does the phone.tar may causing the lock problem?
Cause it's the only tar I've never flashed. I don't think so but...
The problem in flashing it is that my Galaxy is an I7500L (another baseband).

It looks more related to the PDA part of the firmware right?
Or it's about the CSC?

Double check. See the box, the user guide, the warranty. Check everywhere.

Update:
An if it's IK6, why would you reflash it? The latest firmware on this side of Atlantic ocean is IK5 )

I guess Drakaz's recovery would work just fine for the rooting purposes though.

i did see i7500L written on the manual but i thought it would be shown somewhere in the phone system. i wanted to reflash with the mustymod rom. the current firmware is ok but dont like the battery life and the battery life reading is completely off almost all the time.

Come to think of it, I am now even more convinced that you have the L version, because as I said

If I were you, I wouldn't flash anything at the moment.

you cannot extract the baseband/amss file
you will need to wait till samsung release an update that includes this file then flash with odin

Guys,
I'm kind of "out of time" to come here and explain how the brazilians are doing to flash their phones!
We created a group (unfortunately in Portuguese-BR) where some guys flashed the PDA firmware and a crazy guy flashed the whole phone (PDA, Phone and CSC)!!

The group is here:
Galaxy Android Brasil | Google Groups

What can I say for now:
1- Using the Android system information app (found in market) everybody stated our Brazilians phones are GT-i7500! None of them have a "L" in the system informations!
2- Using this information, a guy (Feijó) flashed his phone according to this tutorial: Galaxy i7500 com nova rom « Dicas do chmod (in Portuguese again )
3- Feijó explained that he used the NPS to install all the Galaxy drivers, then he used Samsung Fus Downloader to get the new firmware (IK5);
4- After that he used Odin with Orion.ops and updated the Phone and BINGO!

He was the first one able to flash the phone! It's very risky, we know, but I will try to do that with my phone! The last hope to have a decent phone!

Perhaps our friends from Canada can use the same tutorial to update or "get to life again" their bricked phones!

Later, with more time, I will translate all the home page for you guys! Hope to come here also, to inform that my i7500L is working properly with the new firmware!

Fernando, that's great news!

The guide you linked to does not seem different from what we have here though.

I though so too, but how did they get it there? eBay purchase from another country?

Fernando,

could you please double check if you can find any mention of your phone being i7500L. Check the box, the manual, the warranty leaflet, check the sticker under the battery.

Ask that guy, Feijó, who has successfully flashed, where he got his phone from.

Informale,
Most of the people in the Brazilian group came from here (Androidforums.com) and asked him a million times what is his telephone model. (We were so amazed with the news too)
Feijó answered he bought his phone in Brazil and the box is written i7500L!

It's a mystery how he did it!
Anyway, Andre Muller (another Pearson from the Brazilian group) already found a way to flash only the PDA firmware. I believe I will try his tutorial first before venture myself in a full Galaxy flash!

I use Win 7. I believe you can use any Windows as long as you have drivers correctly installed and Odin sees your phone.

Just remove the phone part as described above and then follow the guide on flashing, the Odin part of it.

Informale,
Do you have a link to download the latest firmware? Ik5?
I've tried two differents links, but none of them seems to work!
RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting
http://dl1.gettyfile.com:8080/46/455700/I7500XXIK5-PDA-CL99814-REV5_ITV_.tar

Do you have the file or any other link?

Rapidshare link works.

The easiest way is to download with Samsung FUS Dowloader directly from Samsung:
Samsung FUS Downloader

In FUS change csc version to I7500ITVIG6, pda and phone to I7500XXIG8.

Thanks, brother!
I just downloaded the I7500XXIK5-PDA-CL99814-REV5_ITV_.tar to my computer!
I'm using Linux, so it's easy to see what is inside.
There are 5 archives in there:
amss
chache.img
kernel
recovery
system

I just removed the amss from the .tar file and moving to winows to start the update. Is it ok, so far?

I tried to find in the forum something about nandroid to backup the my phone just in case of fail!
Is it safe? Should I do a backup first or this is useless in case of fail?

I know I can find all the answers in the forum, but I want to double check, cause this phone was very expensive!
