Default Completely Dead Samsung Galaxy

Hi all,

I have sat in front of me a completely dead Galaxy. Won't turn on at all. Not a peep.

Now, this is the second I've had so forgive my lack of certainty but I'm pretty sure I updated the firmware on this one, but I'm not sure to which version. Wasn't rooted or flashed or anything.

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to bring it back to life? When I had, for a brief time, two Galaxys in my possession, I could take the battery out of the one that is now dead and charge it on the working Galaxy, but (I think) when the battery was put back in the phone it wouldn't take charge or turn on after the battery had completely run out (an unavoidable occurrence). I no longer have two though.

If I somehow got some charge on the battery and it turned on and I flashed it with a Custom Rom do you think that would work?

Thanks in advance.

If the apparatus is not capable of charging the battery it will be of little or no use even if you manage to turn it on with a freshly charged battery and restore/reflash/etc.

Yeah, I thought that might be the case. I did read about a bug on some Android device whereby the battery wouldn't hold charge. Which sounds odd, so maybe I imagined it. Can't find the link now. Wondered if anyone had heard of this issue before.

How did it happen?

If it won't charge or boot with a charged battery from another phone then u probably trashed the bootloader.

It actually would turn on with a charged battery from another phone, that's the strange thing.

What I was actually thinking of wastrying to get the battery charged again on another phone, and then flashing it with a ROM while it was charged to see if it might be a software problem.

Not sure how it happened, it just ran out of batteries and then wouldn't turn on, no matt3er how long I left it charging for.

This happened to me. Phone was switched off & left to charge. When I went to power up, nothing. O2 returned it to Samsung who replaced the circuit board. That one lasted about 2 weeks.......

mrqs: I've certainly tried some of them but not all. Cheers I will try that. I've got a feeling it wont work though because I don't think there's any charge on the battery at all, it doesn't feel warm after being on charge for a few hours.

hogsaway: Damn, sounds hardware related then... Ah well.

Thanks for your comments.

sounds like a broken charger circuit. hardware failure. return the phone.

(that, or the bootloader is broken, in which case it can be reflashed. just return it.)

Thanks Pieter, I would return it but I actually got sent a replacement and they oddly didn't ask for the old one back.. so no big deal just wanted to see if I could get it working.

Might try and find someone else with a Galaxy to charge my battery and then try a reflash, Worth a go.

Hmm bootloader must be ok if it turns on with a good battery. Sounds like a hardware fault. I bet the charger blew it up :P

i currently have this problem. i will soon get a new phone but the problem is this....
sometimes when i plug the phone in it charges and sometimes when i plug it in it dosnt charge. you can easily and quickly tell which its going to be by the lightining bolt showing up where your battery life display is.
if it dosnt charge i take the battery out wait a few seconds and try to charge it again. after several attempts it starts charging and im good for a week to a few weeks. i have noticed the last couple times i had a problem with the charge was when i took the battery out for unrelated problems. this has nothing to do with the charger or bootloader but it is a quite annoying problem either way.
