Default 72 Hours of Battery Life!

I know, I know, it has been achieved before, but this is my first.
I used to get up to two, two and a half days (48-60 hours)
but today for the first time I pulled 72 straight. The phone
still reports 22% charged and 3685 mV, but I think that there's
no way it can last another 18 hours.

The phone was charged on the wall socket (people report
that it charges better than the USB cable).

It was used in my normal pattern, sans listening to music (which
I do while I commute and I don't commute on weekends). This
probably explains the extra longevity.

Firmware IL3, no extra battery draining apps installed.

mine 24Hour+ I7500XXJB2

3G on, normal usage with Internet surfing totally about 1 hour, keep auto-check IMAP4 email by every 15 mins, about 10 calls totally 30-45mins.

I do appologize.

2G on, data synching on (mail, contacts, everything), about 5-10
short calls per day and the same number of SMS. I read the mail
that arrived and very rarely surf a bit (half an hour, just to
check something when away from computer). That's it. On
workdays also listen to music for about 45 minutes.

This may be a daft question and I'm just blind, but...

Can I see "Time since last unplugged" somewhere? The screenshot above shows "Time since boot", but I rarely reboot my phone (IMO, one shouldn't have to reboot anything if it's designed well).

"Settings -> About phone -> Status -> Battery status" tells me if it's charging or not. There's also an entry for "Uptime". But I don't see "Battery Use", neither in "About phone" nor anywhere else.

I'm on L3 build of Android v1.5.

As far as I know you have to calculate time since last unplugged
yourself.

*#*#INFO#*#*

Then use one of the figures, for example if it says "screen on 10%"
and "10 hours" it means that the phone was last unplugged 100 hours
ago.

very low usage - a few short phone calls, a few sms, a few mails, a gtalk notification or two; some market browsing (on 3g on occasion), updating apps, installing a couple of new ones
syncing always on for everything

I can't believe your figures.

With very light usage*, I get perhaps 30 hours -- max. These last few cycles have been about 8(!) hours, so right now I'm doing a full, powered-off, recharge, a deep discharge and another full recharge. Let's hope it's better. Oh yeah, and Android says I've got almost a full charge, while Battery Left says an hour and a half -- and is usually right. Gah. [Edit: and yes, this is with minimal apps running; wifi+sync 1hr/day (scheduled) rarely GPS and never any Bluetooth; and only two widgets (Battery Left and Calendar). I've checked, and Battery Left is NOT what's sucking the life force out of my phone.]

* I usually send 1 sms per day, talk 5 mins per day, and use the calendar and misc PIM apps for a combined total of less than an hour. All this while %$#$%&% because the phone is so gorram slooow, taking several seconds to load up today's calendar, or at least a second to show the contacts list! I sometimes (who am I kidding, I mean 'often') curse my decision to buy into this thing instead of sticking to my Palm.

Sorry, just had to let off a bit of steam.

maybe you get bad reception so your tx is always at full blast?

btw, i did get the no sleep issue a couple of times (in which case the battery was dead in a matter of hours) when i started using jb2, but it hasn't reared its ugly head in a long while

Well I'm pretty happy with JB2 FW for now... after 120 hrs of light usage (3g, 2g, wi-fi and gps most of the time turned off) I still have 60% of battery left.
I also do not have the notorious "no-sleep" issue ("Running = 1.5%", "Screen On = 1%").
But things could even be better if Samsung manages to develop a FW that wouldn't be so demanding while 3g/wi-fi is turned on. There are so many entries in radio log at that time which tells me that the phone practically isn't sleeping at all.

Hum, that might well be the case (in which case any firmware won't help). I must use 3G (my provider has no 2G coverage), and during the major part of my daily whereabouts I get no more than two "pieces of liquorice" (as we say here in Denmark).
Thanks for the insight.

Approx. 2 days ago my Gmail sync slowed down to approx. once per hour. That indeed had incredible effect on battery life, but it is damn weird! Before I had email updates on the phone more frequent that Google Talk for Windows checks for new emails.

How often does GMail update with auto sync on on your phones, guys?

All I have to say is - wow. I can manage 24-36 hrs with the Donut firmware, and I don't usually do more than send a dozen texts with Handcent SMS per day, one or two phone calls (max. 10 min) and some random Market usage. I have K-9 checking four inboxes though, so I guess that's my battery eater?

I don't have background data on (except when I use the Market) so no syncing either. I have GPS and WiFi locators on because I heard that they don't use up battery until an application needs my location. Screen brightness is as low as it'll go and I don't use the pouch. Am I missing some obvious battery eating setting here? I'm really getting frustrated 'cause I don't want to sacrifice performance for battery life but right now I don't have a choice.

I get 3-4 days on JB2 with avg. usage. Means: 30-60 min phone calls, 30-60mins wifi/3G and few SMS. Autosync emails are always on.

Overall the Donut Firmware is the best in terms of battery life so far.
(As long as i dont get hit by the sleep bug, which i learned to prevent anyways)

Friend of mine is on II5 and use the phone a lot more. Like 2-3 hrs a day phone calls. Bluetooth always on with Headset, more browsing.. etc.
Dont know why, but he manages always to get at least 48hrs out of it.

That said: As long as the phone works properly and no battery app drainer are running, the lifetime is great. Compared to my old Hero and the new Nexus, the Galaxy beats the crap out of them.
