Default HTC keyboard on Samsung!

- Download this zip file:

http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1002975/ANDROID/Tastiera%20T9%20Samsung%20Galaxy.zip

- Copy the two .apk files to the memory of you Galaxy (you can mount your SD card to your PC and copy the files - plug in the cable, pull down the notification bar and click 'USB connected', then mount the sdcard. It'll show up as a new drive on your computer)

- Install Astro File Manager from the android market

- Then open Astro File Manager and click and install HTC_IME , and then click and install Clicker

- Go to Locale & Test in the settings menu and select Touch Input and Exit

- Go back into Locale & Text and in the Touch Input options choose the alphanumeric Keypad and exit.

- Now create a new text message and click and hold the text box and select Input method, and select Touch Input

(If you use adb you can just install the apk by typing adb install HTC-IME.apk and adb install Clicker.apk)

This is great man, thanks a lot! I can't believe no one had thanked you before, I went ahead and registered an account here just express my gratitude. The keyboard, is really the only thing that I envied of Hero users. I can do without the extraneous eye-candy, but good UI is good to have.

Default TouchPal keyboard

Not sure if this is old news, but I've been using the TouchPal keyboard and I find it to be very good.

I have it configured for full qwerty in landscape and T+ (2 letters to a key like BB Pearl) in portrait. I find this makes the keys big enough to hit in portrait and the word prediction takes care of the rest.

It's free until Sept 30th.

I tried touchpal, and I couldn't stand it. I like the HTC keyboard a lot more. That's just my own personal experience though.

That's the great thing about android, you have a choice!

I like TouchPal because the keys are bigger and I have big thumbs. I found the keys on the HTC keyboard too small.
I also love that I can choose different layouts for portrait and landscape.

Yeah:

market-enabler - Project Hosting on Google Code

It changes the operator id and region temporarily (reverts after boot). You need to be root.

Someone should ask him to incorporate the fingerprint too.

Mine is little laggy and choppy the standard keyboard is much more responsive, If not for lag it would be perfect.

Eh... used it... not that impressed.

Just get Touchpal or Better Keyboard (cost $). Better options IMO

This would be awesome if it supported æøå.

I mean, it is awesome, but without dedicated keys for those characters it's going to be more of a hassle than using Scandinavian Keyboard.

But I'll keep an eye on this!

You can go to locale settings and turn on 'sound on keypress' for the stock android keyboard. Not sure about this one, but probably can too.

Yeah wierd, even tho the setting is in the 'android keyboard' sub section, it still doesnt work!

I use adb to install the keyboard. If you're on galaxo, its already installed - hold down a text box and go to select input method and you'll have touch keyboard.

If not, you can use astro. Open app manager and it should let u install it.

Or use adb to install it

adb install apkname.apk

Kam what other crap did you remove to get those 53mb? I'm curious about how far we can go on a stock K4. Couldn't you make a list with adb commands like you did with Galaxhero?

Unfortunately it is not working with me.
When I try to install the HTC_IME, it gives me a warning that a system app will be changed and after clicking OK in the warning, the following error: "Auto Correction demo can't be installed in you phone".

Anyone could help me? kam187 are you still here helping your old galaxy owners frieds? :^)

I forget now. I just install busybox, then run a PS and check whats going on. From memory:

- The same stuff thats in my 'memory tweak' post - i.e. npssync, debuggerd etc
- Kill calender and alarm clock _after_ first run (they MUST run once or your alarm events wont register
- Regenerate dalvik cache (delete the cache and reboot)
- Clear vmcache

Then check memory. Its an illustration of total free memory, because it will soon start caching - which is normal. The 53mb figure is a way to compare between OS versions and ROM's to see the absolute max free memory before it caches.

Someone should check out the 1.6 Rom and make a tweaks thread. If I had a galaxy I would do it

10 times the memory? More like 2.5x more But still, your point is valid.

apps on galaxy see around 40megs at fresh boot, on nexus one there should be around 350 (if they enabled all ram in latest kernel).

galaxy is like trying to run vista with 128megs or win95 with 8megs. nexus is like having 2gigs in xp.

Ah, memory available to the apps, that is a tad different then.

Keyboard runs like crazy.. Finally I can type fast..

But only one thing is concerning, when installing it, you give it right to aces to gmail, than rights to install even if it's not market app, and finally you give it right to memorize everything you type even passwords and credit card numbers.. so aces to mail and memoryzing pass and credit card inputs = potential fraud...so pass and credit card numbers should be entered with Android keyboard..
