Default case for the Galaxy

has anybody found a good case for the Galaxy? The one that comes in the box is pretty hideous, so I would like a nice one, preferably one that can be left on like an iPhone silicon one to protect the device.

Thanks in advance
Chris

Has anyone tried these? I was planning to order one. Looks neat on paper.

There's also this. Dunno much about it, images are pretty poor.

Hi,

I have purchased the hard clearcase from

>> EBAY <<

It works really well, the only caveat is that after 3 attempts at removing it I broke one of the side tabs. its brittle plastic so requires caution.
Its the best Ive found so far though. Plus it doesnt totally ruin the phones slimlien aesthetics

remember

1. any case that presses the buttons (most do!) will hammer your battery life!
(the OE case and gel cases are bad for this)
2. depending on firmware , you will need to get the case off occasionally to remove the battery after a unintended random switchoff
(im on H6 and still get them now and again).

I reckon the best case would be a clear rigid gel type that combines good factors of both types.

I found this a bit back,

Leather Flip Carry Case for Samsung i7500 Galaxy Android - - Cases - Accessories - Superetrader - Sim Free Unlocked Mobile Phones & Accessories Store

No idea if it's a reputable company, but it's cheap & cheerful and looks a lot better than the poxy slip that the phone's bundled with.

I finally got my case and its not what I expected . Its like some cheap plastic and there is nothing rubber about it. Like ASukker said it fits very tight and its a pain to put on and off. Good thing I only paid like $4 for it.

some really good custom cases here

eBay Australia Shop - WiWayCN: iPhone 3G S, Touch HD, N97

can choose leather type and colour

inside material type and colour

closing style (magnets etc)

belt clip type

and you can get your name (or whatever) stamped on the case

fit is good for my galaxy, only thing is ... its a little tight just need to stretch leather with use i think

Did any of you hear about the issue with the case and the battery?
I've read that the original case of the Samsung Galaxy depresses the "photo button" on the side, which prevents the phone to go to deep sleep and therefore saving battery life.
I got my phone less than one week ago and today is the first day I'm using it without the case, so I cannot judge for myself. It is true that the case depresses that button, though.

Any of you knew about this?

I read it here, 4th answer

I'm not sure, but you can usually tell from the picture. I'm still looking for a decent case, similar to what the stock one is but with a decent material. The hole I cut for the camera button is getting bigger!

Hi All,
Just recieved my leather case for the galaxy from Leather case for Samsung GT-i7500 Galaxy Tradition | Noreve - Haute Couture for Mobile Devices Very pleased fits very snugly all buttons are usable, you can even talk with the flap closed as they have included a cut out with a metal grill for the ear speaker and a small hole for the microphone at the bottom of the case (if you do'nt like the flap hanging down). The build quality is good and is very well thourght out there is a plastic belt clip included although I ordered the metal version from them. The case is designed in France but made in vietnam. Batterie life seems better for me as I kepted the phone in my pocket before with only the screen protector on so I guess the buttons got bumpted every now and then, have taken the protector off now and what a difference crystal sharp screen and even more responsive. Cannot see any downsides yet but will keep you informed if I do.I found some discount codes on the net, I do'nt know if the work outside of France but they worked for me.("kadeos.fr" for 10 percent off the price )("leguide" for 5 euros off the order)Just one last thing I have no shares in this Company

Any chance of you doing us a video demonstrating the noreve case preferably from another device so we can see just how tidy this case really is?

I fully expect this to be a quality case and so it should at the price but just want to make sure it's for me before i order!

How much bulk does the Noreve case add to phone? I know it comes with clip but I've never liked carrying phones this way it's the pocket for me!

Improved battery I assume is because you're clipped to a belt how does the case protect those button compressions in the pocket?

Hi All,
Will try and get a video done as soon as possible , as for extra bulk it adds about 6 mm. or 2/8 th of an inch in thickness in width it adds about 1mm on top of buttons to each side and 7 mm in hight. Best wait till I get the video done to judge for yourselves but I think its a very custom built case

Many thanks to Ryko for taking the time to demonstrate the Noreve to the Galaxy community this case is by far the best i've seen!

How are you feeling about purchasing the Noreve now that you've spent some time with it? any Cons?

I think my other half has taken the hint and ordered me one for my birthday so i'm hoping it's going to justify its rather steep price tag!

Hmm looks like a good alternative to a pouch for the moment. What is it like for the camera buttons etc? Let us know!

Jozz has it spot on, I previously recommended the clear rigid case.
But after breaking 2 Ive now given up as they arent financially viable if I break one every 2 weeks.

gel case is the way forward..... it also makes the phone looks less 'chunky' compared to a rigid case.
However ! they tend to just have indents for buttons in the gel, so you still need to take a small pair of scissors and cut out the bits for volume, lock and camera buttons imho

Hi Ferox, Have been using the case for a few weeks now and the only niggle I have found is with the metal belt clip, on a few occations the case has spun round and unhooked it's self, so I have gone back to using the plastic clip supplied with the case which physically clips the case to the belt clip.
Sorry to read that you are having hang up problems with your phone, have tried to replicate on my phone but do'nt seem to have that particular bug.
Will keep the Forum informed with any other quacks with this case.

Thinking I might order a silicone case off eBay, like the one Jozz has ordered. Is anyone else using a silicone case? How do they fit on the Galaxy? Do they push on the camera button as with the original case?

I'm more interested in why the Galaxy in those photos has coloured Home and Power buttons.

Its probably just a mock/plastic unit they have on display. The screen has GT-i7500 on it too, and looks really washed out.

Jozz, this case is pretty good. After having the useless plastic cases which only last for a week or two I went ahead and ordered one of these cases. I have been using this case for a couple of weeks and I have been happily surprised with it. I was expecting the case to fall off constantly, but it hasn't happened once. Using the buttons are no problem either. If I had to say the one problem I have would be that the top USB cover almost looks like it is going to break off since the gel cover is so thick, but that is probably just me being paranoid. With this case and a screen protector I have no worries if I drop my phone or accidentally put it in my pocket with my keys. As far as pushing in the buttons like the included case did, I have not seen this to be a problem with this case. My battery life seems to be about the same as when the phone is naked.

I guess Kam is right. I think it's a dummy phone. It looks like a I7500 but it isn't an actual one. The size is the same. It's quite normal, at least in Europe, for shops to have dummies that can be used for size comparison.

Might need a cut out for the light detecting cell at the top of the screen.

It doesn't cover the light cell at the top so no need to cut it out.

theres a proximity sensor at top front right aswell that detects when its near the ear so it turns off the screen

Yes and the gel cases do not cover the light sensor by the speaker. The case doesn't cover any part of the screen in fact. As soon as I get home I will send you guys pictures if you want

Default silicon case from pdair

hey guys,

I bought a silicone case from pdair n ve been using it for over a week. I think this silicone case is great. It is unlike many cheap cases that we find around that attracts lint when we place it in the pocket.
However, the only problem i face once in a while is, when i pull the mobile from my pocket in a hurry, i end up pulling the silicone case right off the phone. .
Apart from this minor prob, this silicone case is the perfect case for my galaxy . .

no its not true
well, it depends on what firmware version you have.if you have anything above ik5 (1.5). that means it shouldn't drain the battery as since then the camera button has been fixed and don't register the presses of the pouch or anything when the phone is locked.
so whoever said that it's draining battery is not right as it depends on the statement above.
let us know what firmware you have and we'll tell you if camera button drains the battery or not.

I have used the following firmwares : dd3, ii5, ik4 and now the galaxohero.
It seems that the camera button press is being registered in the above firmwares with exception of the galaxohero, in which the camera button can be disabled.
so to be on the safer side, i cut a hole for the camera button in my silicone pouch so that i don't accidentally press the cammera button

have you tried new 1.6 donut based firmwares? they also have camera button fixed. if you do adb logcat and press camera button you'll see it does register but differently than before. and constant press doesn't get registered like it used to be on previous firmwares so even if it does drain the battery then very little if at all
