So I flashed my phone early this morning with H7 (I'm in the US - I don't think the H8 with that German/UK CSC file will work for me). Was running GREAT! Seriously, I finally was able to get Internet anywhere and have Market and use the phone like I'd wanted to when I bought it.
Then about an hour ago - coincidentally, shortly after I bought my first paid Market application - I picked it up and it was unresponsive. It had shut itself off. I push and hold the power button, and the "Samsung Galaxy" splash screen appears for a second or two and then it dies. When I try plugging it in, the same thing happens with the battery icon: shows up for a second or two and then dies.
I was able to get into download mode stably, so I tried to reflash. Odin said everything went fine, but the insta-dying remains. Any ideas? :|
Edit: When it turns off in the scenarios above, a small "thud" is detectable. *sigh*

You can use the H8 image as well, just remove the cache.img file from the tar package before flashing and you get a clean installation without the CSC. Although, the CSC doesn't really change anything. Only thing it appears to add is the APN settings for O2 Germany if you are in that network. The APN Settings are absent in finland, even with the CSC.

Are you sure that you don't have an empty battery. I've noticed a few times when the phone drains more power from the battery than the charger can provide and i've ended up with an empty battery even while the charger is connected.
Other than that, I don't have any new information for you. Try doing a factory reset on the phone (and take a nandroid backup of it before you do that), it might help.
Also, the "thud" appears to be normal. My phone does that even if it's shut down normally.
Tried reflashing up to H8, letting it charge for hours . . . still nothing. The phone bricked itself with no warning and with no perceptible action on my part (if it was from the first flash attempt, I would assume that it would have bricked immediately).
Exactly the same problem here, updated the phone, all seemed ok for a few days and suddenly it died.
not booting only showing the splash for a few seconds and dead again, tried hard reset with the buttons works for 2 seconds and dies. no way to restore anything.. BRICKED.
I didn't install anything. didn't root the phone nothing.. and it just suddenly died.
I brought it back to my retailer and they send it to repair.

So it seems they are repairing it.. one thing i am considering is that i will be selling the phone asap when it comes back. this i have never seen before.. must be something wrong with the hardware or with android (something is unstable and not release worthy)..
Hopefully no more users will experience this//
bad thing is i love the screen and the ease of use.. but this is to scary... what you peeps think?

Luckily the people I bought the phone from (Auroracell.com) are giving me superb customer service. They're dealing with Samsung for me (since Samsung USA doesn't have this phone listed anywhere on their site, that's a relief). I've only had the damn thing 2 weeks, and they'll agree to take it back if there isn't some Samsung repair outlet closer. It's got a 1-year warrantee, so things should be fine. I'll keep the thread posted.

people keep saying this but its an assumption.
Facts are this, market allowed me to access certain files that can no longer be accessed while im
using the german csc.
when a uk update is available ill need to flash to a uk rom in order for me to recieve an update when they fix nps.
csc's are trouble causers so never install the csc

The market uses a few pieces of info to show you certain apps. like the fingerprint in build.prop and the mcc/mcn info. When you flash a csc, the fingerprint changes.

It contained a signed zip file (oddly, they have OTA updates inside the custom built tar system) which did replace quite a bit of files in the system partition (in addition to the normal CSC customizations). So yes, the CSC package does change more than the APN and default settings.
Sadly NPS will only work when a CSC is installed. Without it, you can't get updates through NPS.

If the image is a filesystem image and in yaffs format (like the filesystems in android devices tend to be) you can use unyaffs to extract the contents.
If the image is a boot image (like recovery.img), you are looking at merged kernel + initrd package. I haven't looked in to taking one of these apart, but it shouldn't be too hard =)
Then there is the baseband image which is a special image for the phone itself. I haven't even tried to guess the internals for this one =)
