From the home screen, click on the messaging app to open it.

Once open, hit the menu key and choose delete.

That will take you to a screen with a list of your messages.

There will be check boxes there. Just check the ones you want to delete.

It has one for all, and separate ones for each individual message.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Hi doing that is not the problem. After you delete your text messages. When you want to do a new text you hit the bar at the top that says New Message compose new message there is a button for recent. How do you remove them. It will not allow you to open the menu screen.

click the phone option in home screen and goto logs. delete the appropriate log and your recent list would be cleared

well, though im not using infuse, i thought the procedure should be common for all android versions/device. Mine is galaxy ace, Gingerbread 2.3.4 and deleting the list from logs does clear the recent from messaging... May be someone else could shed some light.

I can only think of one reason why this would be relevant...and if that is the case you should really check into some of the "privacy" messaging apps on the market. There are no logs etc...

also...have you tried going this

1st back up any msgs you want to keep with the app sms backup and restore

then from the home screen

menu.settings.applications.manage.all. find messaging and clear data.

and

It's ok...I won't judge you

It has nothing to do with privacy on my part, if you have more than one number for a contact one is a cell phone and the other a land line, it stores both numbers in recent contacts, so when you send a text you may tap wrong contact and send message to a land line instead of the cell phone, there has a to be a way to clear the log.

hrm...mine does not operate this way...

open messaging, press compose, press recent...my default number for that contact shows and only that number shows ..

or

are you referring to when you start typing their name and it pulls up a list of all methods to contact them?

that can not be changed that I am aware of and has been the way every smart phone I have used has worked since the original windows pda's back in 2000-2001

Just had the same problem and found a solution to this. The recent contacts are essentially stored in (you guessed it, under ...) Contacts. So to get rid of it, go to Contacts --> History Tab, then Menu and either Delete all or select the ones you don't want!

Cheers

Try the app "History Eraser". There is an option to do what you are asking. Hope that works.

I dod just what you said, it deleted some but not all, i wonder if it has something to do with how the contact is stored, like to phone or google or ????

i know its a dead thread but i came across same problem and might have found the solution and mistake being made.

If a contact is stored in both the Sim and the phone and Google accounts. It has to be deleted from all 3 otherwise it keeps showing up in these little places.

If you primarily save all your contacts to the phone, but most likely still have some of your contacts still saved on teh sim card, it will keep showing.

Default Deleting recent contacts.

I have tried everything that y'all have said but one thing either deletes my calls history or my messages with people, not my recent contacts. What if this contact isn't even in my contacts? The couple of messages above me are saying that it could be because contacts are saved into different places on the phone. If this contact isn't even in my phone then how would I be able to delete it?

My Galaxy S2 has the same or similar problem. When I try to select a contact for text messaging, I am presented with a huge list of numbers that I have historically called. I cannot delete them.

Somewhere I think, from what I have read, there is a Save To Contacts option. Where is it?

And how do I delete these saved Contacts, because they do not appear in my contacts?

Thanks in anticipation

What log are you talking about? As far as I can see, the infuse has no log from the home screen.

Thanks for your reply. It does not appear to be a log.

If I look in my Contacts from the home screen, I see all my contacts. If I choose the phone from the Home screen, and select Contacts I see all my contacts. Fine, no problem.

If I select Messaging from the home screen, and then choose a contact, I see a huge list of phone numbers that I recognise, then my contacts. The question is how do I stop these numbers 'being collected' and stored with my contacts for messaging. It sounds unbelievable that they only appear her, but its true.

As i said before, if I use Kies I can see them all and delete them, but it is a pain.

I know exactly what Your saying.

Go to contacts....history...and then either "delete" or "clear" and It DOES delete ALL history, even When you go to new message and "recent". Hope that helps! I have a fascinate.

Laugh solution to deleting recent txt msg contacts - samsung infuse

I've been having the same problem of not being able to delete all txt msg recent contacts. I was always able to delete some recent txt msg contacts but not all, it drove me nuts!

So to delete all recent txt msg contacts, start by clearing your history log under contacts. This should delete some. If it doesn't delete any, no worries, the next step will clean it all up.

Next, go to settings - applications - manage applications - select the "running" tab - scroll down and select "dialer storage" - select "clear data"

This action cleared all recent txt msg contacts in addition to all my txt msgs.

I figured this out through trial and error, if this doesn't work for you, keep exploring the other applications while clicking on the "clear data" option until you choose the right one. I think there are several ways of deleting the recent txt msg contacts bc I was able to delete recent contacts along with other things that I needed by clearing the data of other applications :/ but the clear data - dialer storage option was the safest in terms of only affecting txt msging

**I suggest you backup/save your contacts and data to an external memory and also become familiar with how to restore your default APN settings in the process of exploring. I accidentally deleted all of my contacts and disabled my internet the fix for the APN settings was easy, restoring contacts was just time consuming.

Hope this helps!

Default I hope this works ...

I got to this thread looking to do the same on my HTC.

I assume this will work if you are running Gingerbread.

Once in messages, go to Settings>General> un-tick show recent message history

open contacts
tap groups
there you'll see different groups
in my case all the unwanted contatcs were logged in the group "not assigned "
so, this is what I did:
tap not assigned
youŽll see a list of contacts
tap on the contact you want to delete
next tap on menu
finally delete
it took me a while deleting all.
dont forget to un tick background data and and auto sync
PS. All was alright until I signed in skype.
now all the contacts are back!
damn you samsung!!!

This is for the Samsung Galaxy S3 - (maybe this will work for the Infuse)
1.On your home page go into "PHONE"
2.Once in phone go to "RECENT"
3. Once in recent go to the bottom left side of your phone an click to get the Menu bar.
4. Once the menu bar is up select "VIEW BY". This will give you the options of your log. Select "ALL CALLS AND MESSAGES".
5. This will show your complete history of calls and messages and now can be deleted completely.
Hope this works!!

There's a Skype setting to not sync contacts.

Default Found the solution

Someone already posted it on here but I just wanted to validate that I tried it and it worked perfectly.

What you do:

-starting from the home page, go to your phone dialer icon

-click on 'call log'

-press the menu key

-hit 'delete' and check the 'select all' box

...And that's it. Go ahead and go back to your recent contacts to check for yourself that it worked. Problem solved.

Ok go into phone click recent , click menu ,click view by, then choose whatever option fits you best for the logs you want to delete then click menu again and choose delete. you can delete all or pick and choose. (thanks to Chevyman29 at androidcentral) I spent all afternoon and downloaded several erasers, but this was the only thing I tried that worked.
