Default Samsung Intercept doomed to fail?

I know, there may already be a topic on this, but for the life of me, if its there, I can't find it.

Onwards. So far, yes I understand that its basically going to be nothing more than an alternative to say... the Moment. The thing is, its been graced by Samsung already with an EXTREMELY un-appealing 'feature'. An EVDO Rev0 radio. Of all things to do with cutting costs.... why that?! I have no interest in the thing, for obvious reasons. My main concern with this limitation already forced to plague this phone, even before its up for sale, is that its earlier brother, the Moment, already has MAJOR radio problems. It locked up consistently 6 times at least a day (unfortunately, no exaggeration) for me which forced me to yank out the battery every time. Is this gonna be a consistent trend with Samsung and it's Android line of phones? So far... it sure seems to be.

For now, I'm calling the early demise of the Intercept, before it even comes on the 11th here in a short 3 days from now.

I want to hear everyone's opinion on this, and how long they think think that this phone's going to be in Sprint's limelight before it gets the backseat with all the standard dumb phones.

Yes it will fail imo, esp with the Epic 4G (has keyboard) coming out soon... people will buy that instead.

I guess they need a cheapo phone for those who just can't afford an Epic.

Default Late for the Ball

I was so looking forward to the Samsung Intercept. I had the Moment and I loved it, I am now using a HERO and I don't need 4G, but I'm not ready to take several steps backwards either.

I honestly think Samsung has just boosted HTC's sales. If you're going to be late to the ball, at least come dressed for the party.

The Moment modem lock DOES NOT require a battery pull. So yeah, I think some exaggeration might be involved here.

As much as I hate being the ass hat to make a rebutle, yes it does. I dealt with that for 3 months, doing that daily until I dropped it for the Hero. If you flick on airplane mode once the radio locks out, nothing happens. If you try to make a phone call, you can't end the call, the receiving person cant hear you, you can't hear them, and you have to pull the battery out to get the radio reset. Once the phone is booted after pulling the battery, airplane mode will THEN turn on after the lock screen comes up, and you can turn it off.

Trust me on this one, I know what it does and doesnt do, and it DOES need a battery pull every time the radio locks up. You can't turn it off normally, because the pop up menu eoesnt appear when you hold the end call button like you would normally.

You're a moderately successful troll sir.

Ugh, you are slower than the OP (who is still wrong about the lockups). The Intercept isn't being bagged on because it is inexpensive, it is junk because Samsung made it out of some fairly crappy parts.

Meh... Whenever I get a lockup (pretty rare now) I can just reboot and it's all good...

I actually use my intercept over my moment. At least the thing doesn't lock up several times a day.

ok regardless of wether it was made out of junk parts or not,one thing is for sure. samsung intercept users are going to end up with way more than the moment users got and the phone is a good phone if you know what youre doin, mine works fine.i have tons of apps,songs,contacts,widgets.etc...but point is that the intercept is better than people are makin it out to be,go read some forums on the epic! people are sayin that it sucks.but now dont get me wrong.i almost downgraded to the moment because i wanted to root and i wanted a better resolution in a screen but i ended up rootin the intercept and it works perfectly

Can you please link me to the instructions for rooting your phone? I've looked on many forums/sites & most of their instructions or either vauge or complicated. I got it for my wife a couple of days ago & she keeps asking me when am I going to root it lol. Thanks.

Again, not wrong about the lockups on the Moment, I had to deal with that thing for... 2 months going through 5 of them, each and every one locked up every time I tried to do data intensive usage with them. And yes, you are forced to do a battery pull or if you're lucky, hold down the end call button and hope the pop-up to shut down shows up. Half the time, when it locked up, it was a TOTAL lock up. Dude, again, I know what I'm talking about here. Try doing something like... stream from Last.Fm, chat on Gtalk, then browse the internet on your Moment for more than 5 minutes. I can give you a 97.23% guarantee it WILL lock out. Now, try to open an application. Notice it won't open. Hit the home button, and hold the power button down. Note that the pop-up to turn off the phone won't come on. You're going to have to pull that battery out one way or another: hopeful wishing and ignorance won't get you anywhere at this point.

Tell me I'm slow to know about something after having to do it anywhere from 2 to 6 times a day every day for 2 months straight before I got so fed up with it I dropped the issue all together. I know the ins and outs of it: when it locks up, immediately hold the power button down, and hit turn off. If that doesn't pop up with the option, yank the battery. Cycling airplane mode will do nothing because it won't switch to airplane mode until the phone reboots, and what good is booting your phone into airplane mode...

http://androidforums.com/samsung-intercept/169848-want-root-but-i-cant-hard-boot.html
that forum is on this site,im not gonna lie and act like i know everything here lol but i tried the littlekernal build that you will find in that link along with 2 one click root methods and but when i tried the little kernal build i did it of another website and the guy didnt explain good enough and i bricked my phone and had to get another one but corp-t broke it down for me,anyways i tried all 3 of the methods in that link and one of them worked.i suggest trying the one click root methods first and even if they say fail(it did with me) download the droid eris one click root from the market and click root and it should say your device is already rooted.if it does just stop there and go to tweakin the phone(youll love it lol) but if not then move on to the little kernal build wich is more complicated and if you do,make sure you read all the instructions first and make sure you beleive you can do it,also if you try the one click root that says its for the epic 4g but works on the intercept, make sure you dont use the epic 4g usb drivers.use all the methods besides the usb drivers.make sure you use the drivers dor the intercept.you should be fine.another thing is once you get rooted.be careful deleting things that came with the phone,i deleted something and now the market wont help and i didnt do a nandroid backup and theres no roms for the intercept yet so im stuck downloading apk files offline and movin them to my sd card until someone devolopes a rom.hope all works out for you

The mobile should do fine. It wasn't picked by T-Mobile, so it should be OK.

I thought this phone would fail too but now that this is the only Android on Virgin Mobile with unlimited data & texts for $25/mo it will be somewhat of a success. I'm actually considering selling my SERO since this would be a much cheaper Android alternative.
