No live wallpapers or flash? That stinks. But still good news overall. I hope this also pertains to Virgin Mobile USA.
I'm sure Live Wallpapers will be hacked to work like it is on 2.1
Here is a generic list of the benefits of 2.2
Changes included:
* General Android OS speed, memory, and performance optimizations
* Additional application speed improvements courtesy of JIT implementation
* Integration of Chrome's V8 JavaScript engine into the Browser application
* Increased Microsoft Exchange support (security policies, auto-discovery, GAL look-up, calendar synchronization, remote wipe)
* Improved application launcher with shortcuts to Phone and Browser applications * USB tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot functionality
* Added an option to disable data access over mobile network
* Updated Market application with batch and automatic update features
* Quick switching between multiple keyboard languages and their dictionaries
* Voice dialing and contact sharing over Bluetooth
* Support for numeric and alphanumeric passwords
* Support for file upload fields in the Browser application * Support for installing applications to the expandable memory * Adobe Flash 10.1 support
* Support for extra high DPI screens (320 dpi), such as 4" 720p
So today I received the froyo update for my sprint intercept and I like it a lot. Except for the pure white colors that show up in the notification bar and the messaging section, I was wondering if there was any way to change this or if I stuck with this basic white color that I have ?
My wife's Intercept updated this morning. I haven't messed with it much yet, but I did notice that the wifi and other icons were gone from the notification bar. Is this normal or did something go wrong with the update?
Mine is the same I had to go to settings and turn it on. And as for the vibration, silent thing there is this thing when you go to unlock your phone on the right side that has like a speaker if you slide that it turns vibration on.
Both my wife's Intercept and son's Intercept updated this morning to 2.2.
WOW - The phone actually works now! It no longer drops the data connection after leaving a voicemail or mms, location services finally work on the apps, and best of all the phone is responsive. I was able to free up a lot of ram using app2sd to move apps to the SD card too.
glad it working for someone..... ready to throw mine out the window of a moving vehicle. the problems i had with 2.1 are nothing compared this. seems like i'm getting a force close message every 15min. yes it does look great and love the extra home screens.

Have you tried calling your service provider? Maybe they can offer some assistance. Mine is working great, just not sure i like the layout ( the slate grey colors every where i go)
Hopefully it will work for you soon, have you gone to your settings and tried to update it manually ?

manually update what? android, profile or PRL? after android updated this morning, it notified me that there were no firmware updates
I too received the update and I miss the icons for wireless, bluetooth and silent/vibrate on the notification screen! However, there is a widget that you can now add to your home screen that has all of those functions and it doesn't look all that bad!
I would change the title to "What a world of disappointment!." Wifi settings, Bluetooth, sound, etc are now GONE from the notification window. Really stupid. And calendar and google processes crash constantly. Phone is slower, too. Better be fixes soon or Sprint is taking this phone back!

update the Profile and PRL... with extra home screens you can download the widgets.

Granted the Wifi, bluetooth, sound, and such are now gone but I find the new software very interesting. Before on the intercept you had to have a unlock pattern now we actually have a code we can put it which for me adds for better security. Not to mention on my system it seems to be moving and faster and certain applications are no longer crashing!
My wife got hers early this morning in Ky but it bricked her phone. Took it to the store and they replaced it. Updated the new phone with no problems. It is a lot better now. But I don't like the icons missing from the notification area.
I live in IL,Chicago. I have a Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept. Will I get the update? Did anyone around this area get it? What time should I start to see the update? Does it make a difference that my carrier is Virgin Mobile?
Do you have any evidence? I spoke with a Sprint representative. She said Virgin Mobile is part of Sprint. She also said that if it is an Android Samsung Intercept running 2.1,it will get updated.

Froyo making my phone unstable?
I noticed a couple times yesterday my phone acting funny. 2 times, it started vibrating randomly (like I was hitting buttons) while sitting still, and both times it restarted on it's own (went to Samsung boot screen, but strangely didn't take a year to start back up). I also got one force close on the market.
I believe both times were after visits to the Market, actually. The only thing I've done different lately is install ADWLauncher, but I'd like to think that had nothing to do with it (cos it's such a strong, reliable program).
Oh! Last night, get this, my phone got stuck in landscape mode, UPSIDE DOWN!! Like, the buttons were on the left side if you held it with the wallpaper/status bar showing right side up, no lie. When I tried to power off, it just displayed a popup box that said "shutting down" with a circular loading thing, for like a minute. So, I just pulled the battery.
Anybody else's phone doing the mexican jumping bean?

You can expect some bugs flashing the update to a VM intercept. If your willing then go for it. As for 2.2 on the intercept Touchwiz was removed. Contacts(Groups) and the notification toggles are just a couple features lost. Anything Touchwiz related is gone. This is vanilla froyo for anyone wondering.
Thanks this section is a mess. I propose possibly a Virgin Mobile subforum within this section and/or a rooted subforum and a couple mods to clean things up once in awhile.
I know my Wife is a App Whore and she had issues with the 2.2 update at first.. i ended up whipping the phone ins recovery and now it works great.. She has a lot of apps that will not work with 2.2
I actually used to be a guide but couldn't dedicate enough straight time to the forum on the moment section which is my phone. My wife has the intercept and we are slowly getting it set up the way she prefers. I think a sub forum for VM would be great considering a different kernel is required for each phone. I hope a guide or Moderator does step in and merge some threads. I may ask pastafarian from the moment section to help reach someone on this and suggest the best way to Route posts.
This was the thread I was talking about. Pasta has started merging threads so it got relocated but hopefully we can get a sticky with all the info we have posted. A fresh start a post one or something.

What was the point of moving my own thread into a thread about something else? Isn't that why we have an intercept forum, rather than an intercept thread on some main forum?

Oh look, Eldin's spamming all got merged, and the chickens come home to roost. LMAO.
Ha ha!. Pasta is trying to clean up the forum is all Bill. I think it will work out was he has combined most of the 2.2 Info threads and then sort out the info to go up top and the questions below. It would be nice to have a how to thread for 2.2 update, how to root/recovery thread for 2.2 and then some basic troubleshooting that can be pulled from this as well. I have starting editing my post above to include tips that solved issues in other threads that are getting merged so if it gets moved up more people see it quicker.
I emailed Vm asking if we will get the update and i got back...
Hello Eldin,
Thanks for contacting Virgin Mobile Customer Care.
To answer your email: this update will also impact Virgin Mobile customers. Unfortunately, we do not have a specific date to provide you as to when this will be available. You can check on our website for any news or update on this.
If you need additional assistance, feel free to let us know how we can assist further or contact us at 1-888-322-1122 (or *VM from your handset). You can reach us Monday through Sunday from 4am-9pm PST.
That is Froyo in general. Those would be the differences that one could see going from Eclair to Froyo. In our case our phone resolution will only display at its max capabilities. I am trying to find time after work this week to test out some of the things on this list that apply to the intercept.
My phone has had some issues following the OTA update. google GPS no longer opens. It simply spins the little loading circle forever. Sprint Nav works well however thankfully.
My phone has also frozen up completely, requiring me to remove the battery and restart. It then told me I had only 7 % battery remaining. I had it fully charged and unplugged an hour before the freeze-up at which time it was completely charged. However, on the car charger after an hour it then said it was fully charged again.
And I could be wrong, but despite Sprint's claims, I swear the battery drains faster now. Used to be I could skip a night of charging, now I feel I have to charge it every night. It seems to drain faster with wifi open than it used to.
And has anyone else noticed that youtube videos all seem to open in better quality now? Granted, if I don't use wifi they still freeze up after a couple minutes, but every video I have looked at over the network has opened in high quality rather than the really grainy quality that used to be the default pre update.
Also, sprint TV now actually seems to work for me.
Lastly, on my phone the icon at the top that used to read EVDO or 1x now reads 3G. Since it works faster, does that mean the phone is now actually using a different type of connection to browse?
That is everything I have noticed altered on my phone since the update.
I have to ask this only because I used to suffer the same issue. When you applied the update was your battery full? If not this could be the issue. I can tell you how to wipe the battery stats and start fresh but it isn't easy unless you are rooted and have root explorer are are familiar with adb during recovery. This is why with any flash or update you should always have your battery fully charged. Many have said you tube looks much better and it is rumored that the drivers in the 2.2 kernel are updated for the chipset. Also why Some say angry birds looks great now without adding gl drivers. EV and 3G are just .png changes. Android uses 3G for most carriers but Sprint uses EVDO. I really think Sprint let this go with less invasion to allow the more vanilla experience. I think google wants you to use GPS assist if I am not mistaken. Try checking that and see what you get under location in the menu. Please post back if this fixes it. I can add it to the primary post for info if others have the same issue.
I will post back when I have attempted those things. My battery was full when I did the update because I saw the notice when I was getting ready to leave in the morning after having charged it for a night.
I am not experienced in rooting, only with the vanilla phone. My battery does seem to be functioning better, but I will still attempt to work with google GPS.
